  1. “Satellite #megaconstellations operated by developed countries are affecting the pristine night skies of other nations, affecting astronomical observations and #Indigenous practices. International regulation that includes the views of Indigenous peoples and appropriate compensation are called for.”

  2. @sundogplanets probably you already knew this but i just came across this thanks to a colleague of mine that sent me tho link. Amazon satellites are pretty bright --> arxiv.org/pdf/2601.07708

Abstract: "The mean apparent magnitude of Amazon Leo satellites is 6.28 based on 1,938 observations. For spacecraft in their operational mode, 92% exceeded the brightness limit recommended by the IAU for interference with research, while 25% distract from aesthetic appreciation of the night sky. The reflective characteristics are similar to Version 1 Starlink spacecraft."

  3. CSE's own @sundogplanets (University of Regina) has a new article with Gregory Radisic (Bond University) in @TheConversationUS in which they argue that the rapid expansion of #satellite #megaconstellations poses a catastrophic threat to Earth's orbit and the cultural heritage of the night sky and advocate for a Dark Skies Impact Assessment to regulate these impacts before they become irreversible.

  4. "The sky is getting crowded. In the last few years, the number of #satellite launches has increased by an order of magnitude as #megaconstellations of internet-powering hardware crowd into low Earth orbit. The pace of both launching and retiring these units is creating new kinds of #pollution, potentially upsetting the #climate system and the protective #ozone layer."

  5. "This paper investigates China’s and the U.S. strategic approach to deploying #megaconstellations in Earth orbit, focusing on the intersection of technological capability and global power dynamics. ... The research underscores the urgency for a collaborative international framework to regulate space traffic and preserve the long-term viability of Earth orbits."

  7. Hey Scientists and Science Fans— Check out the “Constellations” app by @hannorein !

It’s a great visualization tool for showing the over-saturation of commercial satellites, and it’s available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Keep it handy so you can show your family, friends, congressperson, or senator!

  8. ICYMI, we're loosing the night sky.
"When all these #megaconstellations are complete, there will be nowhere on Earth to escape to observe a dark, clean night sky."

  9. "The issue of the protection of dark and quiet skies from large satellite constellation interference featured prominently at the 66th meeting of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS) which took place in Vienna in early June, although no consensus was reached."
