This is #goodnews. But let's not get complacent. This just shows when we put the pressure on, change is possible. #climatechange #airpolution #polution #environment #eco

The changes in pollution levels in Paris over the past 15 years are incredible. You might not agree with Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo: she is cracking down on SUVs, increasing the number of bike lanes, reducing the speed limit on the ring road from 70 km/h to 50 km/h... #AirPolution #Polutiom

Of 134 countries and regions surveyed in the report, only seven – Australia, Estonia, Finland, Grenada, Iceland, Mauritius and New Zealand – are meeting a #WorldHealthOrganization (#WHO) guideline limit for tiny airborne particles expelled by cars, trucks and industrial processes. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/mar/19/air-pollution-health-report

Confronting one’s life choices is painful. Having to even consider a change in one’s daily routines is worrisome and stressful. For almost everyone. Rejection, wishful thinking and declaring oneself an exception are all well-understood defensive mechanisms.
One way to approach the problem of inducing behavioural change is to expose the subject to the ready made solution in a distended environment, such as on holidays. Traveling is an outstanding form of education. The recalcitrant will always be there, impervious to incentives and examples and good reasons, but eventually a generational change will sweep them aside.
The scale is daunting, isn’t it. But society-level change is possible. One has to lower the barriers of entry, flatten the learning curves, and make it cool and desirable. It is done all the time with all kinds of products and habits—by companies mostly, to sell us stuff. It’s a matter of finding the right approach.

"Air pollution from oil and gas production responsible for $77 billion in annual US health damages, contributes to thousands of early deaths, childhood asthma cases nationwide"
Obviously we need to immediately start decreasing fossil fuel usage world-wide for #climatechange reasons. That's critically important. But even totally aside from that, air pollution from fossil fuels is pretty bad. I for one would appreciate better air quality. So what's with all the stalling?
