I still think that Dylan Thomas' "Fern Hill" is a perfect poem... So I'm sharing it here, if you need a poem today. Maybe read it out loud, it's got such a lovely music to it.

There's a whole bunch of queer love poems: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/collections/101691/queer-love-poems
Carol Ann Duffy is a queer poet: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/carol-ann-duffy
Her collection The World's Wife is a good place to start. This collection is also pretty cool: The Choreic Period (Latif Askia Ba) - you can read sample poems of his at The Poetry Foundation: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/latif-ba
And: Jericho Brown, who won the 2020 Pulitzer for poetry (collection: The Tradition)

Time for #ThreeGoodThings :
1) the amaryllis flower has opened! second blossom is on its way.
2) made a tasty 'experiment' - a sort of vegan lasagna consisting of red lentils, soy mince, very finely sliced potatoes, vegan cheese and vegan cream.
3) sent out a poem today. (Chestnut Review is open to submissions until the end of the month).

A helpful piece about ableism in workshop feedback / expectations, by Sarah Fawn Montgomery:
"I wanted to write stories about bodies and brains like mine without having to justify that yes, this really did happen and, yes, I really did feel this way, and no, I was not exaggerating to garner attention or sympathy."

The new issue of Ouch! just came out, and I am one of 75 queer / trans / nonbinary contributors whose work is collected in it. You can read the whole issue online FREE (or treat yourself to a hard copy, which also helps support the journal):
https://www.ouchcollective.com
at the top of the page, go to 'Publications' to see the digital issues - the latest one is 4. There's a lot of visual and textual art to explore!

Insightful, heartening read by Mia You on (non) native English, (poetry) translation, and who owns language:
https://www.poetryfoundation.org/articles/1659311/poets-on-translation-the-alternative-speaker
"The English of possibility. The English in the imagination. The English reclaimed and reinvented by the (neo-)colonized speaker. You find a way to stretch the language to fit you and your stray prepositions."

where are the poets of Mastodon? Are you here to publish only on Mastodon? Are you submitting to journals/reviews/websites? Have something to "boast" about? #Poetry #Poetslift #MastoPoets #PoetryCommunity @poetry

Dear @writingcommunity I have to say I'm a bit giddy. I just sent out a new manuscript for the first time - and it's not my usual kind of work, it's collage poems. Fingers crossed.

Without A Cloud
joy is presence
when strings are bowed
joy is purpose
when fields are ploughed
joy is keeping
to what was vowedjoy is a calm
voice in the crowd
joy is the truth
humbling the proud
joy is freedom
that is allowedjoy is quiet
when life is loud
joy is wisdom
piercing the shroud
joy is the mind

Friendly new year's reminder that Threepenny Review has opened for submissions - it's the quickest way to get that first rejection of the year out of the way. It's become my own little new year's tradition to send to them on Jan 1st. @writingcommunity #mastopoets #mastowriters #OpenForSubmissions #writing

Maybe the librarians of Mastodon can answer this question. Why do we put poetry in non-fiction? Why isn't poetry in among the novels and science fiction and mysteries? And - why am I only asking this question now? #Poets #MastoPoets #Librarian

Happy everything, @writingcommunity ! Let's make a thread of journals currently open for submissions, so we can end the year on a hopeful note! #submissions #mastopoets #mastowriters #mastolit
