  1. The Spectrum Shift Debating Autism's Evolving Map

This debate contrasts the traditional medical model of autism (framing it via cognitive deficits and clinical boundaries) with the contemporary neurodiversity paradigm (viewing it as a natural human neurotype requiring societal accommodation).

The discussion covers diagnostic evolution, the circular "galaxy" model of traits versus linear scales, double empathy etc.

Review: Fritz: A Mushroom Story by Kelsey Garrity-Riley

Garrity-Riley, Kelsey. (2026). Fritz: A Mushroom Story. Tundra. When I first picked this book up from the bookdrop I thought, eh...it's kinda cute. Probably not groundbreaking. I WAS WRONG. Fritz and I are kindred spirits my friend. Let me tell you about it. This is my buddy, Fritz. He is a chanterelle mushroom. Personally, I think that mushrooms are really cool. He likes rose hip ice cream, chestnut soup, crafting with his mom and reading mysteries with his dad in a cozy chair. He is […]

  3. @dave I was once told that I probably *used to* have #ADHD, but now I'm just afraid to grow up. (This was by #MayoClinic, which has been successfully sued by various psychiatric patients for misdiagnosis. They might be brilliant in everything else, but in my experience, they simply view #neurodivergence as an excuse for laziness. Which is what everyone thought years ago before we knew better.) Oh, also apparently I didn't get along with my mother. They based that on my tendency to interrupt her - which, hello, is classic ADHD. Fortunately she didn't take their 'diagnosis' as truth and feel hurt.

  4. Hidden Fires & Inner Skies

A new NeuroDivine devotional exploring Eucharistic spirituality, neurodivergence, and the quiet places where Christ meets us in creation, prayer, and the breaking of the bread.

  5. Today is a terrible brain-day but I managed to finish a comic this week, and posted it just now to Tapastic - and even though it is about IH, I think my neurodivergent peeps would also like this one. (:

Comic is FREE to read and sub to
    ALWAYS in Tapas:

  7. @Tor Iver Wilhelmsen For starters, making it a hard technical requirement on the server side would exclude and discriminate against
    • actually blind or visually-impaired people who do post images regardless
    • neurodivergent people who, due to their disability, are incapable of turning images into words

Besides, what's "the platform"? Only Mastodon or the whole Fediverse?

Just in case you didn't know: The Fediverse server applications that can send posts with images and other media onto your timeline include, but aren't limited to:
    • Mastodon
    • Glitch
    • Hometown
    • Pleroma
    • Akkoma
    • Misskey
    • Calckey
    • Firefish
    • Iceshrimp-JS
    • Iceshrimp.NET
    • CherryPick
    • Sharkey
    • Meisskey
    • GoToSocial
    • snac
    • Hollo
    • Tootik
    • Mitra
    • micro.blog
    • Smithereen
    • Socialhome
    • Friendica
    • Hubzilla (that's what this comment came from)
    • (streams)
    • Forte
    • Pixelfed
    • Vernissage
    • PeerTube
    • Loops
    • Plume
    • WriteFreely (needs an external image host, but still)
    • WordPress
    • Ghost
    • nodeBB
    • Lemmy
    • /kbin
    • Mbin
    • PieFed

If "the platform" means something with one development team, it's only Mastodon. And everything else I've listed above, and then some, is free to keep alt-text optional.

If "the platform" means the whole Fediverse, this means that well over 100 Fediverse server applications, all being developed independently from another and especially from Mastodon, often working vastly differently from Mastodon, would have to make it impossible to post images without alt-text. This, by the way, is next to impossible to implement on at least some of them due to the way they handle images and therefore alt-text.

And you can be certain about one thing: If the Mastodon developers add something to Mastodon, it's very unlikely that Mario Vavti and Harald Eilertsen, the Hubzilla developers, and Mike Macgirvin, inventor of Friendica and Hubzilla and still developer of (streams) and Forte, will follow suit. Other server applications won't because they're dead in spite of still having running servers (Calckey, Firefish, /kbin etc.), they're in maintenance mode which means they won't get new features (Iceshrimp-JS), or their development is on hold (Plume).

  8. Another inspiring story from the Daily Encourager occasional newsletter.

    "Painting the Chills

Fingerprint drawing a portrait of The Chills’ lead singer Martin Phillipps in a noisy atrium during school holidays may not be the best idea.

Particularly when the artist, Tom Fox, has autism spectrum disorder, meaning his senses can be easily overloaded and emotions intensified."

  9. CW: Human rights

I had to explain human rights to my personal assistant (I am disabled) yesterday. She claims to be not political and neutral and said that she doesn't understand why so many people (in Germany) are not fine with the government cutting off all financial resources as punishment for people who depend on them and break certain rules (missing several obligatory appointments).

Instead of discussing the reasons why people might not be able to follow the rules, I pointed out that even the worst people deserve human rights, that even prisoners have a roof above their head and get free food and she got my point.

This is what human rights are for. You don't have to understand all the individual reasons why people behave in a certain way, if you don't have the capacity for it, but if you are fine with punishing people with starvation and other forms of cruelty you are not apolitical, you are not neutral, you are against human rights.

  10. CW: Mentions of politics

Would anyone be interested if I ever made a Substack account for my writing? It'd be for shits and giggles basically, I don't wanna feel obligated to write articles all the time. I'd probably write about politics and possibly esotericism. All of my articles would be free unless I get good traction on there.

For more background into my politics, I'm an independent from the US with a slight left lean. I'm also a bi AuDHD woman, so I'm able to bring a healthy dose of diversity into what I do! I think universal healthcare, inflation and privacy are the biggest issues in the US currently. That said, I'm also very passionate about neurodivergent advocacy and acceptance. I think neurodivergence is the biggest DEI issue that few talk about.

  11. HE’S JUST LIKE ME FOR REAL 🤣🤣🤣

One of my crushes sent me this and it basically hit me in the damn soul and I started crying laughing and had to share it here.

If I don’t know you or trust you, I would rather do ANYTHING ELSE than acknowledge that you’ve just flirted with me, but believe me, I know, and believe me, I’m Fucking Panicking. Often for YEARS. OOOPS 🤣

I do really like this guy, though…

  12. You don't have to pay anyone to be autistic or any flavor of neurodivergence.

If you choose to seek a mentor or coach, you should know there is little research... perhaps none... their efforts are effective.

    perplexity.ai/search/can-you-s

Also bear in mind that personal testimony or endorsements for mentoring services are always suspect in any counseling program.

The relationship between coach and client creates inherent bias in testimonial reporting. Clients may feel obligated to provide positive feedback to maintain good relationships with their coaches or to justify their participation in the program.

Personal testimonials, while meaningful to individuals, cannot substitute for scientific evidence of effectiveness."

There is no question that collaboration with an experienced mentor may be useful.

But there is nothing "scientific" or certain about their insights or systems.

And nothing... at this point in time... to certify as effective, professional, cost effective.

The most important things in ANY form of counseling is personal rapport and trust...

And focusing on your comfort, safety, and own judgment and autonomy.
