  4. Experts, Knowledge Communities, and #PublicHealth (A thread).

Public #healthcommunication usually happens through an exper model. The big idea is that experts have knowledge that other people lack. It's the expert's responsibility to get the knowledge out to people. It is hierarchical with gatekeeping mechanisms meant to ensure trustworthiness and accuracy. At the same time, it can be inflexible, slow to respond to changing situations, and limited by the time/energy/POV of a single person (1/4)

  6. OK, maybe there is a solid #HealthCommunication reason for this? I mean, once you hit the "hazardous" category, I guess it doesn't really matter *exactly how far* above 300 points the AQI is....

  7. @plaguepoems
    Hah!
Here, the mayor's air quality warning yesterday didn't mention respirators at all. Today, it said "you can wear an N95S."
Can? Is it supposed to be permission? Ability? Possibility?
    Not a #HealthCommunication win 🤦‍♀️

  10. I've been here for a week and don't think I'll be going back to the bird site. So, finally, here's my #introduction.

I am an academic researcher based at the School of Media and Communication at #RMITUniversity in #Melbourne.

I research in #HealthCommunication, #SocialMarketing, #Sustainability and #BehaviourChange, and I lead two national projects in the End Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre (all the links are in my profile).

I am here to build dependable connections in my research field and to discuss health and sustainability-related stuff. I am also here for the pictures of pets, puns and fart jokes.

  11. Hello, #MedMastodon! By way of #introduction, I am a #medpeds #adolescentmedicine doc @Duke.

My main interests are positive youth development, supporting healthful decision making among youth, and equipping adults to be effective partners & advocates for young people.

    I think a lot about youth with chronic conditions, #behavioralhealth, #populationhealth, #healthcommunication, & #designthinking.

As far as future “toot” output, I lean towards positive, encouraging content & amusing GIFs.
