New to #gnomebuilder .. any ideas about this mistake on #Debian13
bwrap: Can't bind mount /oldroot/home/nasendackel/.cache/font-dirs.xml on /newroot/run/host/font-dirs.xml: Unable to mount source on destination: No such file or directory

Hey 👋 #mastodon people. I have an idea for a concept and want to build an app for it. I really ❤️ how #libadwaita apps look and feel (very similar to material you). I was looking into the #gnomebuilder IDE and around some #Gtk documentation but it was tbh really confusing (since I'm absolute newbie).
I'm looking forward to some step-by-step guidance.

I stumbled upon a 2300-pages-long PDF document that actually is a fantastic benchmark for slow search performance (1.5 to 5 minutes) in most PDF readers (including GNOME Papers, Evince and Okular)… so I fired up #Sysprof through GNOME Builder to measure the slowness, and reported my findings in #Poppler for all of you performance optimization aficionados: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/-/issues/1660

Happy new year 2025!
Got to write the first copyright header year of 2025 when started breaking out some map marker code to prepare for refactoring the "current location marker" in Maps to be drawn using GTK snapshot stuff, and use the new accent colors. 🎆

As someone who frequently makes small contributions to many different repositories, Builder's git clone workflow is soooo nicely executed. It's super satisfying to just paste a link, click a button, wait a few seconds, and boom, have Builder open my local clone on the spot, ready to be worked on.

About time to update the shield parsing/rendering to deal with the updated defintions with short-hand "banner maps" from OpenStreetMap Americana.
So, let's dive down into C (pun kinda intended) again… 😁

Create Apps for *phones* with #Vala !??? Yes, of course, for #LinuxPhones!
Check out the #postmarketos wiki for supported devices, maybe yours works: https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Main_Page
You ask, which Vala apps already support phones? The answer is: Almost all that use #libadwaita!
1. Go with the #GNOME App template in #GNOMEBuilder
2. install the "qemu-user-static" package on your host
3. select ARM as target architecture and click the export bundle button in Builder
4. transfer it to the phone and run it! -
I haven't played with GNOME Builder in a while. I was able to start a C++ project, then compile the "Hello World," then run the program and export the binary to my home directory. That was easy, all right.
This was all using the Flatpak on Fedora Silverblue 40.

@konstantin
I don't even use it for writing code (except very occasionally), but I already find #GNOMEBuilder 100% worth using just for building, testing & debugging any project and any branch without having to go through the hassle of having a zillion terminal tabs open to build myself and launch GDB, etc. It has definitely streamlined my workflow as a project manager and QA monkey. Now if we could get a handful more features in #gitg and optimize its performance, we'd have a perfect combo.

@ikt it's available via the GNOME Nightly Flatpak repo (or if you clone the Git repo, you can “press play” in #gnomebuilder

Christian Hergert just published a massive PDF document named "Builder, A Developers Notebook", where he documents over the technical details of GNOME Builder.

I was looking up how to hook up a Toolbox to the GNOME Builder Flatpak in Fedora Silverblue, and I found my own solution of almost two years ago:

@xgebi I'm using #Helix https://helix-editor.com/ because it has great integration with language servers including rust-analyzer, but has completely different usage idioms. Other editors to try out would be #GnomeBuilder https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Builder or #Lapce https://lapce.dev/ - no idea about the current state though due to me not using them on a daily basis.

#GTK #LibAdwaita App for creating barcodes is getting more and more real. Because #GnomeBuilder allows building even for aarch64, I've been able to test it on my OnePlus6.

Thank you @TheEvilSkeleton for taking the time to make #Meld work with #GNOMEBuilder, so that any #Python + #GTK #GNOME contributor can now easily test and improve that venerable textfiles comparison tool without having to figure out how to build the app by themselves!
This should also make the GTK4 port here easier for anyone to test and contribute to, once it gets rebased: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/meld/-/merge_requests/105#note_1875728

@freezr
Not sure about the latter requirements, but there is #GnomeBuilder https://apps.gnome.org/app/org.gnome.Builder/ the one on #GTK3 is the most feature-complete and reliable, but there is an overhaul in development based on #GTK4 I used is my default editor for over a year and liked it, but I'm stuck in my ways with #Spacemacs so I switched back eventually. #Editor #IDE -

James Westman recently shared how he added mobile app development capabilities to GNOME Builder. Take a look at his blog post for all the details: https://www.jwestman.net/2021/08/06/finishing-gnome-builder-mobile-support.html
Or jump right into setting it up yourself with his tutorial: https://www.jwestman.net/2021/08/06/tutorial-mobile-dev-with-builder.html

Speaking of flatpak and GNOME Builder, Leo Prikler already packaged the latter for Guix, in July, and I didn't noticed. No need for the flatpak 👍

Hey #GNOME and #GTK folks here, I'm currently trying out #GnomeBuilder for C++ development. As far as I understand it uses meson as a build system. Do I have to edit the meson.build configuration manually or should I set the required parameters via the build-settings?
