  1. @vfrmedia try #Okular it can look a bit plain, but has a lot of features and supported formats. #opensource #crossplatform

Made by @kde and available through #fdroid etc.

  3. Mam bardzo glupie pytanie.

    Jak w #lInux.ie wydrukowac plik tekstowy? O_o 🤣
    What the actual f...? 🤣

  4. Argh, filling in a #PDF form with #Evince. I accidentally tick a radio button that I shouldn't have ticked. I now cannot untick it. #Okular seems to have the same problem.

(The form has clearly been authored wrong, since it has 2 separate radio button groups where there should be one, leading to the possibility of having 2 buttons ticked at the same time, but really, I don't want to have to re-fill in the entire form just because nothing will let me undo the selection!)

  9. I just accidentally discovered Okular can open epubs. Handy!

#Okular is one of my favorite pieces of software. It does one thing, does it well, and doesn't demand a god damn thing from me. Never once have I asked it to open a PDF and it not just do that (excluding corrupted files, as that's not it's fault). It's one of the few pieces of software I can't think of a complaint about.

  10. I 💕 free software. I especially like #KDE #okteta which I frequently use for viewing PDF files when hacking on Poppler and #okular

  12. I stumbled upon a 2300-pages-long PDF document that actually is a fantastic benchmark for slow search performance (1.5 to 5 minutes) in most PDF readers (including GNOME Papers, Evince and Okular)… so I fired up #Sysprof through GNOME Builder to measure the slowness, and reported my findings in #Poppler for all of you performance optimization aficionados: gitlab.freedesktop.org/poppler

  20. You know what, now that I tried again, it's actually pretty good. Obviously I have to use it a bit longer to discover all the quirks, but so far it has all the functionality I need and more. It also looks quite nice on its own, even though it looks completely out of place between the other GNOME programs, but I don't really mind that.

  21. #Acrobat #Reader ist gerade gestorben.
    Also für mich.

Vor zwei Wochen: Durchsuche #PDF nach Text. Kein Treffer. Gebe die Info weiter.

Heute Rückmeldung: "Kann doch nicht sein...blablabla"

Durchsuche PDF erneut nach Text. Kein Treffer.

Gesagt getan: #Okular runtergeladen. Datei geöffnet. Nach Text gesucht. Gefunden.

Also echt!

  22. Can some kind person help me understand and solve a quirk of Okular (23.08.5) on Plasma (5.27.12, Kubuntu 24.04)?

When I click on a link on a pdf document opened in Okular, it seems that Okular does not simply pass the link to my browser (Firefox), but that it first tries to open the link itself. For instance, clicking on an actually broken link, I get a "Host not found" error in an Okular message, rather than from my browser.

I've checked Okular's settings and backends' settings, but can't find anything about links there. In my file associations, anything related to htm and html extensions has Firefox as default.

    So what's going on?

  24. Liebe #Linux -Bubble.

  25. Something that #Okular does that I FREAKING LOVE 💌 is having the
    `File -> Open Containing Folder`
    menu option.

Absolute gold, @tsdgeos and team. I'd **love** that in many others like #Krita, #Gwenview... and thousands of non-KDE apps too!

It is very very useful, even if hidden in a menu. Makes it very easy to find related stuff... or simply just to find wherever you put that in.

  26. @itsfoss
Wow that is a hard one to answer as I don't use any #Proprietary tools
Back before I moved to Linux & was still on #Windows7 2019, I went out of my way to not use proprietary tools & only used open source tools & tools ported to #Windows from #Linux.
A cheap answer from me would be: #Okular & #Firefox replaced #Adobe Reader for PDFs
The thing about proprietary #Software is you have to pay for it & I was never into that🏴‍☠️ 🦜️
On #Android I've been replacing proprietary Apps with open source

    eco.kde.org/blog/2022-03-16-pr

  30. We getting closer to a #gpg4win 5 release. 😀 Here is a new Beta version:

    files.gpg4win.org/Beta/gpg4win

featuring #kleopatra and #okular updates and comes of course with the fresh #GnuPG version 2.5.12

  31. I've installed the old #Oxygen style on #bazzite via rpm-ostree:

    rpm-ostree install oxygen-cursor-themes oxygen-sounds plasma-oxygen-qt5 plasma-oxygen-qt6 oxygen-fonts oxygen-icon-theme oxygen-mono-fonts oxygen-sans-fonts plasma-oxygen

It's way better to use then Breeze for #touchscreens - i also use it on #SteamOS on my #SteamDeck

I also switched for #konsole, #okular and #gwenview to #Fedora packages. This works much better for remote volumes than the #flatpak versions:

flatpak remove okular gwenview konsole; rpm-ostree install okular gwenview konsole

    #skeumorphism #screenshot #FedoraKinoite #hints #unixporn

  33. New hardcore #PDF rendering performance benchmark for #Poppler:
"Jesus Christ it's a #Lyon (map), get in the car!" :blobnom:

That map takes 26 seconds to render with Poppler on #Linux, but only 6 seconds with PDFjs, or 15 seconds with XPDF: gitlab.freedesktop.org/poppler

I've profiled the issue on the various Poppler rendering backends, and there are some hypotheses about the slowness. If anyone can help fix this, that would be fantastic.

  34. Look at gpg4win.org/version4.2.html to see why freshly released #Gpg4win 4.2.0 makes a difference: Includes an experimental, lightweight PDF reader geared towards secure environments.(To use the validation and signing abilities of the included PDF Reader #Okular by #KDE today, you'd probably need to be an expert to configure the certs. Usability is planned to improve with later releases). Gpg4win is faster for large files and with many public keys. #GnuPG 2.4.3 included. #EndtoEndCrypto #OpenPGP

  35. @os_sci

In my experience Libreoffice Draw breaks a lot of PDFs. It allows editing them tho.

    Instead what I use
    - #PDFArranger to combine, cut and change order
    - #Firefox to add text and images ("signatures")
    - #GIMP to really blacken pages (export as JPG and use in PDFArranger)
    - #Okular to fill out forms, read and mark

Not great to have so many in parallel but this works.

  36. @eliasp @Zugschlus

I can add to the list. Though focused on it is based on which means we have a nice preview for and other things.

  37. I need to print a 40-pages long #PDF as a #brochure - pages are A4 printed in duplex on A3 sheets, to be later completed, stapled and folded.
I am running Okular Linux PDF viewer and manipulation program, and either OKI C844 laser or Epson L-15150 ink printers.

Now, I am urgently looking for a #FOSS application to print (or reshuffle pages of) source document in a #booklet form. I am trying to do it straight from #Okular, but can't find adequate options.

    #HJALP please.

  39. Carl Schwan from #KDE has updated the list and the number of apps on there now that apparently already have builds available for #macOS MAKES ME HAPPY.

    There's
#Kate! #Filelight! #Konsole! #Okular! I'VE NEEDED THEM ON MACOS SO BAD AND THEY'VE BEEN HERE ALL ALONG <3

    Pushing my luck here but
    #Dolphin on macOS, when? 🥹
