Was wir bisher als klassische #Konsole verstanden haben - günstig, Plug & Play und tauschbare #Spiele auf #Disc - wird aussterben. #PlayStation 6 und #Xbox #Helix werden über 1.000 Dollar kosten, sind getarnte Wohnzimmer-PCs und die Spiele gibt’s nur noch als nicht übertragbare Online-Store-Lizenz.

Fresh TUI has been my code editor / IDE for the past week and it's not too shabby.
I wanted something that worked in the terminal - lite, efficient, and responsive. Perhaps even "minimalistic".
Helix is a solid contender and I gave it a months-long try, but modal isn't for me.
I did need to change several configuration options in Fresh, and a couple keybinds for my terminal emulator (Ghostty), but now Fresh is doing most of what I would have used VSCode for previously - without the cruft.
It's FOSS and written in Rust.
edit: No, I'm not particularly proud of my code, and the 126 warnings are an LSP misconfiguration error. 😅

It looks like the Helix is getting a legit Scheme plugin language with Steel. This is amazing and terrifying for me, given my track record of jumping editors. Helix already plays super, duper well with NixOS as well.

Fern 🪴 v1.5.0 is born! 💖 It brings Keybinding "presets" for many of the major text editor families. Now, you can switch to a preset "base layer" for #Vim, #Emacs, #Helix and #VSCode (ie. GUI-like editors. Called it 'arrows'. Sorry, not sorry. lmao). Custom keybindings in your config file take precedence and are layered over the base presets.

OK, c'est futile, ça n'a probablement aucun intérêt sauf pour les quelques geeks qui aiment changer d'herbage, mais je me suis (re)mis à #helix, l'éditeur de texte (modal) qui serait presque comme (n)vim, mais avec une logique légèrement décalée (selection puis action, pas l'inverse).
Bah c'est bien. Pas besoin de trouze mille plugins, les LSP marchent direct, l'interface est clean ; mention spéciale pour les "pickers", ultra-efficaces.

I've heard good about #Helix, but I am unsure I understand their approach to LLMs. It is listed on open-slopware, but searching for commits marked as tainted doesn't show me any results: https://github.com/helix-editor/helix/commits?author=claude
Have they reversed course? If not, is there a fork with the unfree parts removed, or am I better off looking for something else?
