  3. Found this belt in a #CharityShop in #LetchworthGardenCity. It was in a wrapper suggesting it's new. Only noticed the #McDonalds logo after purchasing. Wondering the story is - maybe part of some uniform, but not immediately finding pictures of similar belts on the internet.
According to their website, Talens Publicitat sells branded items to corporations including McDonald's in Spain. 🤔

  4. Yet another set of books from the charity shops near me. At this rate I will die before I can read them all. Anyway, I have gone for something a bit different from my usual sci-fi stuff.

  5. Charity shop hall:

  7. It’s the weekend again and I’ve been to the charity shops to find some more books. My haul this time includes "The Three-Body Problem" by Cixin Liu, "Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said" by Philip K. Dick, "12 Years a Slave" by Solomon Northup, “Sexing The Cherry” by Jeanette Winterson and “Last Human” by Doug Naylor. Not bad for a tenner.

  8. Another weekend and another charity shop haul. Three more Arthur C Clarke books: "The Deep Range"; "Childhood's End"; and "The Fountains of Paradise". Also "The Man in the High Castle" by Phillip K Dick. Finally I picked up “The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes” by Arthur Conan Doyle. All in it cost me £11 which I think is pretty good going.

  9. I needed to buy new trousers, because my old ones ripped (seems like this booty can't be contained)

I bought a pair from a charity shop and then at home I found out that the brand sells their trousers for 80+ quid. I paid substantially less, of course. Wild.

  10. Look at my haul of science fiction books from the charity shop. Titles include Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and a selection of titles by Arthur C. Clarke, including the Rama series and the Odyssey series but annoyingly someone has got there before me and taken 2001. 🤯🤬

I bought a £10 acoustic guitar from a charity shop twelve years ago and recently found an iPhone audio clip where I was clearly attempting to thrash it to death. Missing chords and all. I do like rhythm guitar though, so here you go at your own peril…

  16. SWANSEA: Wales Air Ambulance to close Cwmdu charity shop after many years serving the community

Wales Air Ambulance has announced that its Cwmdu charity shop will close in June – ending what the charity describes as many years at the heart of the community.

The announcement was made on the charity’s social media pages, with the final day of trading set for Saturday 27 June 2026. Donation drop-offs at the Cwmdu store have already ended, closing for the last time on Friday 1 May.

The charity cited the challenging retail environment facing shops across Wales and the UK as the key reason for the closure. Rising property running costs and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis – which has squeezed both donations and footfall at charity shops – were identified as the primary factors.

Wales Air Ambulance said it had explored all options before taking the decision. “Despite exploring all options for the continuation of our lease at Cwmdu, no long-term solution could be identified,” the charity said. “This decision was not taken lightly, and we know it will be sad news for many who have supported the shop over the years.”

The Cwmdu shop was previously named Wales’s favourite charity shop in a public vote – a recognition of the loyalty and affection it has built up in the community over the years.

Wales Air Ambulance paid tribute to the staff and volunteers who have kept the shop running. “We are immensely grateful to our Cwmdu employees and volunteers – past and present – for their commitment, professionalism and hard work,” the charity said.

Supporters who have pre-loved goods to donate are being directed to the charity’s remaining Swansea shops. Wales Air Ambulance operates stores on College Street in Swansea city centre and in Mumbles, both of which will remain open.

From Saturday 2 May, donation drop-offs from the Cwmdu area can be made at either of those locations. Full details of all Wales Air Ambulance shop locations across Wales can be found at walesairambulance.com.

The closure reflects a broader trend facing the charity retail sector. Rising business rates, increased energy costs and changes in consumer behaviour have placed significant pressure on charity shops across the UK – with many organisations reviewing their retail estates as a result.

The cost-of-living crisis has had a particular impact on charity shops, with research suggesting that while donation volumes have held up in many areas, the value of donated goods has fallen as households hold onto more of what they own for longer.

Wales Air Ambulance relies on fundraising income to fund its lifesaving service, which operates seven days a week across Wales. The charity’s helicopters and critical care cars respond to some of the most serious incidents across the country, from road traffic collisions to cardiac arrests.

The charity said its commitment to supporters in Swansea remained strong. “Our commitment to supporters in Swansea remains strong, through our shops on College Street in the city centre and in Mumbles,” it said.

  17. Also from the charity shops today…. Avatar on Blu-ray and the highly humorous Spaced series on DVD.

  18. Another book haul from the charity shop. Three books acquired: Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell; Moonraker by Ian Fleming; and something of a chance read - The Enchanted Night by Miklós Bánffy (no idea what this will be like, but thought I’d try it out).

  19. Another day, another load of books purchased. I’m quite pleased with this haul. The version of “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” with Jack Nicholson on the cover I’m particularly pleased about. It cost me the princely sum of £1.99 from the local charity shop. Also, I’m pretty pleased to pick up a brand new copy of Andy Weir’s latest book for half price from a local bookshop.

  20. Another charity shop book find. Quite pleased with these. The Time Machine features a 3D cover and includes 3D glasses. Obviously, the Christina Rossetti book includes the Goblin Market.

  21. I got these from the charity shop today. £3.50 for the lot. The Dune book is the current edition that you can get in Waterstones in the UK.

  23. Princess of Wales makes surprise visit to Tŷ Hafan charity shop in Lampeter

The Princess, Patron of Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice, stopped at the charity’s Lampeter shop on Tuesday after completing an official engagement at Melin Tregwynt Woollen Mill. According to staff, she spotted the store nearby and decided she “couldn’t be this close without popping in”.

Warm welcome for unexpected royal visitor

Tŷ Hafan’s Regional Sales Manager Maree Thomas said the visit took everyone by surprise but quickly turned into a moment they will never forget.

“Although the visit was brief, HRH took time to shake hands and be introduced to each of us,” she said. “She spoke with our Deputy Store Manager Jenny and our volunteers Krystyna and Rachel, saying she couldn’t be this close without popping in once she saw our store next to her official engagement.”

Staff and volunteers embracing inside the Tŷ Hafan charity shop during the Princess of Wales’ surprise visit.

According to staff, the Princess told them she understood the importance of local communities supporting one another and recognised how vital Tŷ Hafan’s shops are for hospice families. She also said she loved her recent visit to the hospice and praised the “amazing work” carried out by the teams.

Despite being advised she was short on time, the Princess insisted on seeing the shop’s haberdashery section and signed the customer comments book before leaving.

There was also a moment that left staff emotional. As she prepared to go, Jenny joked that she almost hugged her. The Princess replied, “Please do,” prompting the warm embrace captured in photographs.

    “Everybody was overjoyed”

Tŷ Hafan’s Chief Executive Irfon Rees said the visit meant a great deal to the charity.

“How fantastic that our Patron, The Princess of Wales, popped into our shop in Lampeter and spent time chatting with staff and volunteers,” he said. “Without doubt, HRH’s impromptu visit definitely left everybody overjoyed. On behalf of everyone at Tŷ Hafan I’d like to thank The Princess for everything she is doing for us.”

Tŷ Hafan is one of only two children’s hospices in Wales and supports around 300 children with life‑shortening conditions and around 3,000 family members each year. The charity says more than 80% of its care costs are funded through public donations, including income from its shops.

  24. Swansea Cancer Research shop among 58 set to close as charity cuts high‑street presence

The charity says rising costs and changing shopping habits have forced a nationwide restructuring of its retail network, with dozens of shops already closing and more expected over the next two years.

Union Street store to shut as charity cuts back

The Swansea city centre branch at 19 Union Street is one of the latest locations confirmed for closure. Cancer Research UK says the move is part of a long‑term plan to streamline operations and focus on its most profitable sites.

The charity previously announced it intended to close up to 88 shops by 2026, but the wider restructuring could eventually see nearly 200 stores shut across the UK.

    Rising costs blamed for closures

Cancer Research UK says the closures are being driven by mounting operational pressures — including higher National Insurance contributions, rising energy bills, increased delivery costs and inflation affecting stock and logistics.

Once the restructuring is complete, the charity expects to operate around 320 shops, concentrating on locations that generate the strongest returns.

The organisation says the changes will free up around £12.4 million over the next five years, money it says will be redirected into life‑saving cancer research.

    Online marketplace also being axed

As part of the overhaul, Cancer Research UK will also close its online marketplace in early 2026, meaning donated items will no longer be sold through external resale platforms.

Instead, the charity plans to shift towards larger “superstore”‑style outlets, with 12 new retail‑park‑sized stores planned by 2028.

  26. I found this notebook last week at the charity store I work at. They are pretty laid back let you take stuff, give you stuff they can't sell etc etc. Anyways I found this notebook which came in and I discovered it is a small Covid 19 diary.

The first date is March 15th 2020 and it ends on April 26th 2020. It is in cursive and I can't really read it too good.

It appears to be written by a teacher and two days in they detail how schools will soon close.
