  1. Did they call the wedding off, or did they both die during the divorce after the chandelier cable snapped?

Either way, thanks to them, I now have a thrift-store-fresh copy of Betty Crocker’s Cookbook — Bridal Edition.

  2. Found this beauty from 1969 in shrink for $2 at the thrift the other day. What a fantastic voice, and really fun arrangements. Need I even mention the Beatles covers?

  4. I came across a bread recipe online the other day that recommends #baking the loaves in glass #Pyrex bowls. I have tried my hand at baking bread a few times before but never in glass bowls, and I didn't own any oven-safe ones.

Yesterday, I went to my local thrift store, and sure enough I found not one but two liter-size Pyrex bowls for 99 Cents each. Exactly what the recipe called for. This is a sign from the universe telling me to attempt this peasant bread.

Fun fact, I just watched a YouTube video about how #thrifting got ruined by resellers, and apparently Pyrex is one of the things they go for. Who knew!

Anyway, here's the recipe link, I shall report back with results: alexandracooks.com/2012/11/07/

  5. $20 for an all super clean (unused) aluminum case at the Hales Corners Salvation Army. Man if I needed to build a Pentium 4 era rig I’d be kinda salivating rn. (Or wanted to flip it to a nerd for $50-200, but I don’t have the spoons for selling stuff anymore)

  6. So this is one reason I really really really love thrifting for music and won't ever stop.

The Jones Brothers & The Log Cabin Boys are pretty important Bluegrass musicians out of North Carolina, and they have dozens of releases on LP, 45, and cassette in their Discogs discography.

But, much to my surprise, neither group appeared on any documented Compact Disc (in Discogs, anyway).

So I got to add this disc to the database, and now the world knows that some of these songs did, in fact, make it onto CD. That's a real pleasure for me.

Anyone have something similar they take great enjoyment in, even if it's not specifically thrifting music that might or might not end up being important?

  16. I usually watch the #thriftShops for various elusive objects of desire. One such category is vintage mid-century coffee mugs.

We breezed through a long-lived antiques mall after lunch (Old Ottawa South) and stumbled across a vintage Fire King D-Handle, in the milk-glass colour I've long sought.

Yay! So I'm just anointing it with a spot of tea.

  21. Snatched this for 50¢ at a local rummage sale. A 1945 gardening pamphlet (100 pages) from the American Garden Guild. Advice and poetry.

  23. Such a perfect treasure it immediately sparked me to get out a needle and thread and finally tighten up the cuffs on that old chambray.

Thrifted Oxxford for Neiman Marcus gun club check
Spier & Mackay striped linen button-down collar
Time Catcher (Olderbest) chambray work shirt
Thrifted Hertling flannels freshly cuffed by Luigi

  27. Went up to Redmond and then Woodinville for thrifting today, and scored some things off the wishlist, not limited to: a Furla wallet, a pile of 30 Tombow brush pens (retail: $3 each), a weird little Trader Joe's tote bag, a Yeti water bottle and tumbler, Biobags(?), a sealed stack of DVD-Rs for the apocalypse, clothes for the kid, a baking tray, and a Cafe Du Monde mug.

  28. Popped into the thrift shop hoping to find any of three things in the eWaste junk piles but struck out. No small old monitors, mini HDMI cables, nor bumper for an old moto phone.

Was worth a shot – my expectations were low. Could check a few more places but prob not worth the effort.

  34. The secret to #thrifting* is finding a great tailor (or becoming one!)

    *1997 Brooks Bros (Southwick) corduroy
    *Deadstock O'Connell's (Samuelsohn) windowpane
Spier & Mackay brushed herringbone ocbd
*Ben Silver (Vitale Barberis Canonico) woolen flannel
    Meermin unlined suede pennies

  35. I gave away a whole-ass computer today! Mini-tower (Ivy Bridge i5, 8 GB of RAM, SSD), monitor, keyboard+mouse, cables. Genuinely happy to see it go to a good home.

Today was Everything Is Free Day in my neighborhood, which is exactly what it sounds like. For my kids, it's like Spring Christmas. For me and my spouse, it's a day to pass things on to our community and find cool stuff for ourselves.

The goal is to come home with less stuff than you set out in the morning.

  36. Score! #Thrifting

edit: These have got a small boy inside me very excited. I was the non-retrofied target market for these. I dropped real quarters into real arcade versions of these that I didn't always have permission to drop.

  37. A bit of a late-afternoon thrift shop visit! We looked at the record LPs as well. Always some entertaining!

THAT is Jerry Wallace, in case you were wondering.

The "Wurst" of PDQ Bach guy is hamming it up.

Don't know what Sam does, but he's proud enough of that shirt for nine pics on his cover.

Discount Mr Rogers is having a rough time, and he'll tell you all about being "born to lose."
