  1. Suomalaiset keksivät, miten James Bond päätyi salaiseen palveluun – Vaasassa filmataan jo kolmatta Bond-fanielokuvaa

Parhaillaan kuvattava elokuva kertoo, miten James Bondista tuli 007-agentti. Elokuvan ideoi, tuottaa ja ohjaa vaasalainen Bond-fani nollabudjetilla.

  2. Another book haul from the charity shop. Three books acquired: Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell; Moonraker by Ian Fleming; and something of a chance read - The Enchanted Night by Miklós Bánffy (no idea what this will be like, but thought I’d try it out).

Drax is at best better avoided, closed.
It amused me that #IanFleming picked #Drax as the name for one of his villains.

  5. The James Bond novels and movies were among other things (like indulgent fantaisies for men) a way for Great Britain to feel comfortable, reassured about their influence after the winding down of the empire.

In current times, the passing of the 007 icon from the UK to the US does feel very symbolic isn’t it ?

  6. The 'fascinating' life of Scottish author of famed Alfred Hitchcock classic who inspired James Bond 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Mr Buchan’s novel, The Thirty-Nine Steps, published in 1915, was adapted into a film by Hitchcock 20 years later. The story was noted by Bond creator Ian Fleming through the similarities between the spy and Buchan’s character Richard Hannay, as well as the use of the spy thriller “chase” to escape his enemies.

  8. #WritersCoffeeClub Aug 10: What's your favorite summer read for a getaway/holiday/vacation?

This Q takes me back to the summer of 1993, when I began #Reading #Novels w/ an eye toward writing one. I read #IanFleming's #JamesBond, Gregory Mcdonald's #Fletch, #RobertBParker's #Spenser...I can't pick one favorite book of all I read that summer.

  13. #WritersCoffeeClub Dec. 28 — What are your thoughts on using real brand names in your writing?

I'm fine w/ it. It helps bring characters into a specific place and time. #IanFleming used real brands. #RobertBParker did. OTOH, it's also fine to invent brands as #LawrenceBlock does. However, if there's no purpose using a brand name, it's not necessary.

I used a real type of jeep in my story "Fred" b/c I wanted readers to have a real point of reference:

  14. What am I hoping for here? Discussions about classic movies, horror movies and cult movies obviously. Most cult genres from the 30s to the 80s. And vintage popular fiction genres. Mostly I like stuff that the mainstream regards as trash. So, some hashtags.
