En 1961 se casó con la modelo y pintora danesa Birgit Krøncke.
Permanecieron juntos durante más de medio siglo, hasta la muerte del actor en 2015.

Quizá porque Christopher Lee siempre protegió ferozmente su intimidad.A finales de los años noventa, cuando muchos actores de su generación ya estaban retirados, llegó una segunda juventud profesional.
Fue entonces cuando apareció en dos de las sagas más importantes de la historia del cine.
Interpretó a Saruman en "The Lord of the Rings" y al Conde Dooku en "Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones" y sus secuelas.
Su relación con la obra de Tolkien era especial.
Había conocido personalmente a J. R. R. Tolkien y fue el único miembro principal del reparto de "El Señor de los Anillos" que podía decirlo.
Además, releía las novelas prácticamente cada año.Y cuando parecía que ya había hecho de todo, decidió sorprender al mundo una vez más.
Con más de ochenta años comenzó a grabar discos de metal sinfónico inspirados en la figura de Carlomagno.
Sí, metal.
Mientras otros actores de su edad disfrutaban de una jubilación tranquila, él grababa álbumes, participaba en festivales y colaboraba con bandas del género.
A los 91 años incluso consiguió entrar en listas musicales con una canción navideña metalera.En 2009 fue nombrado caballero por la reina Elizabeth II por sus servicios al cine y al teatro.
Para entonces ya había vivido más aventuras de las que la mayoría de las personas podrían acumular en varias vidas.Murió en 2015, a los 93 años.
Y quizá lo más curioso de todo es que, cuanto más se investiga sobre él, más difícil resulta separar la realidad de la leyenda.
Fue testigo de la última guillotina pública de Francia.
Conoció a uno de los asesinos de Rasputín.
Sirvió durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Participó en la búsqueda de criminales nazis.
Conoció a Tolkien.
Era familiar lejano de Ian Fleming.
Hablaba varios idiomas.
Grabó discos de metal.
Fue Drácula, Saruman y Dooku.
Y siguió trabajando hasta una edad en la que la mayoría de la gente lleva décadas retirada.Hay personas interesantes.
Hay personas extraordinarias.
Y luego está Christopher Lee, un hombre cuya biografía parece empeñada en demostrar que la realidad, de vez en cuando, puede ser mucho más increíble que la ficción.
