  4. I regret to inform you that 6 people died of #COVID in #NYC the week ending September 26. They're the first deaths since the beginning of May, but six is still too many.

Fortunately, #COVID19 cases and hospitalizations aren't rising as fast as before, so I'm hoping the wave is cresting, still below the threshold I set for going into Outbreak Mode. #Flu and #RSV cases continue to rise, but are still very low.

    #COVIDIsNotOver - I #WearAMask in doctors' offices and I'm going to #GetVaxxed soon!

  16. Vaccinations against COVID and flu done! If you are in Berlin, there are free spots available here for example:

    nordring-apotheke-berlin.de/le

They also have the XFG adapted version of the COVID vaccine, but currently you need to pay for that yourself (~EUR 105).

  21. Greetings, here are the weekly #washingtonstate #kingcounty (that is, #seattle and environs) #COVID #COVID19 #wastewater toots.

A reminder that this King County respiratory disease data comes from Washington State, not the federal government.

The West Point (WSPT) sewage treatment plant's SARS-CoV2 seven-day running average numbers are still bouncing around at a fairly high level. The last seven day running average calculation was done on 9/22.

WSPT is one of three King County(-ish) sewersheds in this dataset. You can find overviews, individual sewershed results, and a breakdown of variants for the state wastewater surveillance program, along with other metrics like case counts and hospitalizations for Covid-19 and other respiratory illnesses, at doh.wa.gov/data-and-statistica. If you go to the page and click "learn more" in the statewide view tab, you can find out lots of details about how these data are calculated and how to interpret them. The dashboard gets updated every Wednesday (generally). The Department of Health is here on the fediweb, at @WADeptHealth

  25. @zero I think it’s still early in the cycle. We had ours a couple weeks ago. I saw signs when I went to pick up prescriptions, and realized I hadn’t seen any announcements. They told me it was a soft open before calling the horde. So we took advantage and got our shots pronto. I enjoy less waiting!

  27. So, me being me, when I use the phrase "dope" as in "awesome", I spell it "doap" (rhymes with soap). I've done this for a great many years.

I kinda disappeared off the radar when I was very ill with #covid, right into #LongCovid (you are still masking, right?), and lost touch with a lot of formerly close people.

Recently I've been in contact with several old pals, and each one at some point used my spelling. A silly thing, but deeply meaningful - they're giving me a sign like they remember *me*.

  37. Via Betsy Ladyzhets at The Sick Times, the CDC says there will be an interruption in the reporting for about 200 respiratory disease #wastewater testing sites as they change contracts for testing companies: thesicktimes.org/2026/09/29/na. The note at the CDC website at cdc.gov/wastewater/respiratory is terse and doesn't make any promises about when the testing will be restored.

In Washington State, I believe almost all the wastewater testing happens at the state level, so I don't expect there to be much of an impact here. One possible exception is Snohomish; it gets its testing data from Verily, the existing CDC contractor, and therefore might be one of the two hundred affected sites. But I don't know that for a fact.
