  1. Yesterday, I got the flu and covid vaccines. This batch knocked me out, and I slept over 15 hours that night. I'm still sleepy and not quite mentally present. Very glad to only have the vaccine and not the full disease.

So, for today's #inkyDays drawing, I'm going with something super simple, and not even attempting to think about the #SciArtSeptember challenge. Perhaps I'll be doing better tomorrow.

  7. CVS keeps telling me I can get my flu vaccine now, at the same time I get my next Covid vax later this week. But I’ll wait until October, as recommended:

    statnews.com/2026/09/02/vaccin

The various medical groups stressed the need for patients of their members to receive flu, Covid, and RSV vaccines if recommended, and to get them at the appropriate time. Sarah Nosal, president of the American Academy of Family Physicians, noted, for instance, that because the effect of flu vaccination can wane over the course of the season, the best time to get an influenza shot would be in October, which is typically closer to the start of the season.

  17. #PSA From someone who's been through it: you do NOT want to get dengue; if you visit Florida, take precautions (see first link). Beware: the dengue vaccine isn't available in the U.S., only if you are traveling abroad. No, it doesn't make sense, especially because, as the world warms, we'll see more Aedes mosquitos in the mainland.

"If the schedule is changed, the costs will be measured over time. Today in the form of more sick kids with #measles. Two decades out in the form of meningococcal #meningitis in a college freshman who wasn't 'high-risk' until the dorm outbreak. Three decades out in the form of congenital #rubella in the pregnancy of a woman whose split MMR doses were started but never finished. Forty years out in the child born in 2027 who never received the hepatitis B birth dose and reaches my #ICU around 2066 with a failing liver tied to a chronic infection acquired at birth."
