@futurebird Hank Green is extremely deferential to authority in general. His old videos on anti-vaxxers show this. He has a tendency to consider people who don't defer to authority as irrational. In the case of anti-vaxxers, his blind deference led him to correct positions. In the case of AI, it led him to incorrect positions. We must stop "trusting the experts" & start critically evaluating studies & their methodology. I trust reliable evidence like well-conducted studies on all-cause mortality. These happen to be mostly made by "the experts", but "the experts" also say nonsense if given enough money. I trust someone with no credentials writing in a peer reviewed journal more than a PhD with 30 years of experience speaking on a podcast. There were two approaches to dealing with the outbreak of measles that spread through the rural community of Gaines County, Texas earlier this year. Dr. Ben Edwards — himself sick with the virus — handed out cod liver oil and prescribed inhalers, neither of which can prevent or cure measles. Meanwhile the waiting room at the only hospital in Seminole, the county's largest town, was virtually empty. On one recent weekday, just four people had come by Gaines County's free vaccine clinic. NBC's Brandy Zadrozny reports on the spread of misinformation, a child's death that brought anti-vaccine activists to town, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s involvement, and the situation now that the outbreak has run its course.

I get where you're coming from. I was an early #COVID sceptic (not #antivax) until a mate who was working on the vaccine put me straight with empirical evidence. I then fell foul of the #Plandemic & antivax brigade! 🙄
A friend who I repeatedly clashed with online over COVID tragically died 18 months into the #Pandemic.
Unfortunately he succumbed to the very COVID he said didn't exist. He was ill for days & refused to seek medical help. C19 got him. 😓
