Washington.- El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, firmó este lunes una orden ejecutiva que reduce de 18 a 11 las enfermedades contra las que el Gobierno federal recomienda vacunar a todos los niños y establece nuevas categorías para otras inmunizaciones.
La medida, impulsada junto al secretario de Salud, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., deja vacunas contra la gripe, la covid-19, la hepatitis A y B, el rotavirus y la meningitis bajo criterios de riesgo o de decisión compartida entre padres y médicos, mientras ordena revisar el calendario federal de vacunación infantil.
La Casa Blanca presentó la medida como un paso para establecer un calendario infantil de vacunación de «estándar de oro», mientras Trump vinculó durante la firma la revisión con el aumento del autismo y cuestionó la seguridad de la vacuna triple vírica, pese a décadas de investigaciones que no han encontrado una relación causal entre las vacunas y el autismo.
Expertos en salud pública han advertido además de un posible repunte de enfermedades prevenibles mediante vacunación, en un año en el que Estados Unidos ya ha registrado su mayor número de casos de sarampión en décadas.
Las críticas republicanas a la medida de Trump
La decisión fue criticada por el senador republicano Bill Cassidy, médico de profesión y quien dejará el Senado el próximo año tras perder las primarias de su partido, quien afirmó que Trump carece de la experiencia necesaria para realizar esos cambios y defendió la seguridad y eficacia de las vacunas.
Cassidy también rechazó las afirmaciones sobre una relación entre las vacunas y el autismo, y advirtió que separar la vacuna triple vírica contra el sarampión, las paperas y la rubéola en tres inyecciones individuales puede hacer que los niños reciban más pinchazos y aumentar las dudas de los padres sobre la vacunación.
La orden encarga además al Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos presentar en un plazo de 90 días propuestas para revisar el calendario de vacunación infantil, desarrollar alternativas a los adyuvantes de aluminio y reforzar la investigación sobre la seguridad de las vacunas.
Trump afirmó durante la firma que «nada malo puede pasar» con la revisión de las recomendaciones, mientras que la orden instruye al Gobierno a estudiar también posibles cambios en las políticas estatales relacionadas con los requisitos de vacunación para asistir a las escuelas. –sn–

I guess I'm going to keep the paper version of the catalog, then.
