  1. 🙄 So annoying that I couldn't resume the 3D print I had going once I finally got the filament to replenish. Had to kill the print and start over because the A1 Mini was confused. #gripe

P.S. If anyone has any suggestions for 3D print and filament recycling services, please let me know.

  2. sudo usermod -a -G dialout <username>

I don't miss much about Windows but when I'm plugging a frickin' device into my Mint laptop could it give me a clue why it won't work. C'mon, its meant to be user friendly now isn't it?

  3. 😒 How inconvenient that I want fresh fried chicken at this hour

  4. The modern web is going great, example number 32,767:

I go to my local city's parks and recreation site and click on the button for the class catalog, and it gives me a PDF of the catalog, except...

It's NOT a PDF. There is a PDF of it, somewhere, but what I get is a bloated, slow JS view of the pdf hosted on some hellsite called fliphtml5 dot com.

I start looking for a way to download the stupid thing, and the best I can find is a downloader site which downloads it and serves you up a PDF... except... the PDF is basically just a stack of JPEG screenshots of whatever fliphtml5 barfs up, and somehow, even better, it's only the first four pages.

I guess I'm going to keep the paper version of the catalog, then.

  5. 😕 Maybe an unpopular Animal Crossing opinion: I dislike the wedding-related events in Pocket Camp and New Horizons in June (my birth month). I’m not interested in collecting wedding furniture and other items. 😛 #random #gripe

  6. 😕 Ugh, I wish Neko Atsume 2 had a bulk photo download option. It’s bad enough they limit album pages to 15 per cat, but once you hit the limit, it’s a pain to try to download the photos to free up space. #SillyProblem #UX #gripe

  7. É, estou achando que não vou conseguir dar aula hoje não. 😞

  8. I remember during the COVID-19 pandemic and people were saying "I can't exercise with an N95 mask, i can't breathe!" and I'm like "if you get COVID-19, that most certainly will be true... plus training with a mask is undoubtedly BETTER if you have allergies, and you have the really hard core people buying air reduction masks to improve your air handling ability without having to move to Colorado Springs" Anyway.... #gripe

  9. Damn. I need to get my septic tank pumped. Got some seepage percolating up to the surface of the drain field. Sigh…yet another several hundred dollar unexpected expense. As if the cost of living wasn’t bad enough already. Gonna need new tires soon as well. No longer as ‘liquid’ as I used to be, so these pop-up expenses are a real pain. #gripe #grumble #affordability

  10. It irks me that podcasts I subscribe to for ad-free episodes still have ad break sections, just without the ads.

How hard would it be to put a continuous version on the subscription feed?

  11. Edit: 12 assignments turned in (about half the class), every one of them was exactly like described below. 100% fail rate. Maybe I'm a sucker, but I gave everyone the opportunity to resubmit within a week for no penalty. This is exactly the same assignment I gave to this class last semester; in that class, I think two or three out of 25 did this. Ugh.

    Oh. My. Gods.
I gave my intro psych students an assignment (they had 3 weeks to work on it) requiring them to find a news article and identify two concepts from our textbook in the behavior of people in the article. There were explicit instructions not to choose an article about a psychological concept. I explained in class (twice) that this would obviate the entire point of the assignment, which is for them to identify the concept, not for other people to do so.

Class is ~25 students. I've looked at half the submissions. Every. Fucking. One. is an article about a psych concept ("operant behavior helps dog owners train pets" "Summary of priming research", etc.).

My suspicion: Each of them found a principle in the textbook, then googled that. This is, of course, guaranteed to get them a list of ineligible articles. Worse possibility: they asked #AI.

This class refuses, by and large, to engage in lecture or activities, asks zero questions (seriously, we're at like ten weeks with zero questions or comments of any kind). Nobody has ever come to office hours or asked to see me about the class, their grades, etc.

It will get me serious negative attention from my chair and dean, but I will apply an honest grade of F to every one of these students if that's what they earn.

  12. This may have been the smallest print "advertising supplement" I have ever seen in a newspaper insert. Also.. completely suburban WASP feel-good-but-does-little articles, including hawking a high tech kitchen composter. These almost have more content than than the actual LA Times has. The "China Watch" propaganadvertising section was almost the size of the rest of the paper. #journalism #gripe

  13. Typing "filename.txt" in the search bar returns EVERY FILE with TXT in the filename. I JUST WANT FILENAME.TXT. #gripe

  14. Honked at by a p***ed off driver unhappy that I did not pull up fast enough on an overpass so they could speed onto the freeway 5 seconds earlier earlier today. Is it a law now you have to touch the bumper of the car in front of you or you trigger road rage by the person behind you? Either a Mercedes or BMW. 🙄 Also, is this a post-pandemic thing that people only obey traffic lights if they are in the mood? 🤔

(you can tell I mostly bicycle places now when I can, lol... my tolerance for automobile drivers is waning dramatically).

  19. Okay, the CDPH needs to change their messaging, measles is now a US problem, not an "international travel" problem. 🤨 The outbreaks are everywhere... not just international. Either they are not keeping up with the news/numbers, or they are remiss in updating their messaging. (unless South Carolina, with 920 cases of measles, is considered a foreign country...)

  20. Listo el pinchazo antigripal 💉.
Le di la bienvenida a mi sistema inmunológico para esta temporada de mocos y tos. 🤧 Ojalá sea suficiente para bailarle a la gripe. ¡A por un invierno saludable! #Vacuna #Gripe #Invierno
