“So MS doesn’t suddenly appear as a dominant theme. It progressively changes the meaning of an existing theme, exercise. Running starts off as something you do. It becomes something through which you write about physical autonomy, determination and adaptation”.
“One of the clearest thematic arcs is your journey with MS: defiance -> adaptation-> acceptance, without surrender”
“As physical time becomes more obviously finite and valuable, how you choose to spend time becomes more important than conventional professional achievement”
“It begins as a record of what you’re doing and what you think about the world. It gradually becomes a record of what the world is doing to you, how you respond to it, and finally how you understand the life that brought you here”.
As a summary of 20 years’ writing goes, that’s quite perceptive.

@Geri the "best choice" here is not good enough, he says he supports a 2 state solution which means no right of return for palestinians and israel keeping the roughly ~70% most fertile land they stole over 100 years. While appearing radical at first glance a 2 state solution would entrench the status quo of zionism, of an ethnonationalist state, and if by some miracle the powers that be did allow a palestinian state to exist, fighting to get their land back would no longer be classified by liberal zionists as domestic terrorism but international terrorism and an act of war. Further solidifying the both sides narrative of "the cycle of violence"

Book 35 of 2026.
Delayed by our time in japan. I read this book for a second time while immersed in another culture. This book is like a green banana ... It will be good one day if you put it in a brown paper bag with an apple. But not for too long.
Uneven and experimentally rough. It is worth a read but tries way to hard to attain the kind of profundity that can only be granted.

New book: "A Kind of Spark" by Elle McNicoll. Kidlit (marketed as appropriate for ages 11 and above) with an autistic protagonist navigating life at school, friendships and bullies, while being helped by her older sister - who is also autistic!
Autistic folks helping each other out, sounds very good. Also maybe something my kids can read some day.
