Have you noticed the user agent ‘Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/118.0’ in your log files? Thousands of such requests come in from 25 servers at a German provider. They look like search queries on the website as if using a form, but all quite pointless.
This has been going on for months. It doesn't really burden the server, but is a waste of resources. I don't have a good explanation. An AI bot?

Wydana niedawno wersja Firefoksa 141 wprowadziła inteligentne grupowanie kart, oparte na lokalnym modelu AI.
Funkcja, która miała ułatwiać zarządzanie wieloma otwartymi stronami, wywołała falę ostrej krytyki. Użytkownicy na forach internetowych, takich jak Reddit, masowo skarżą się, że nowe rozwiązanie powoduje drastyczny wzrost użycia procesora i błyskawicznie drenuje baterię w laptopach. Niektórzy wręcz oskarżają Mozillę, że stworzyła bloatware.
Problem stał się widoczny, gdy użytkownicy zaczęli zauważać, że ich komputery nagle zwalniają i przegrzewają się podczas korzystania z Firefoksa. Analiza menedżera zadań szybko ujawniła winowajcę: nowy proces o nazwie „Inference”, który jest odpowiedzialny za działanie lokalnych modeli AI w przeglądarce. „Nie chcę, żeby te śmieci rozdymały moją przeglądarkę, wysadzały mój procesor i zabijały baterię” – pisze jeden z rozgoryczonych użytkowników, dodając, że zadaniem przeglądarki jest renderowanie stron, a nie podążanie za modą na AI.
Technologia inteligentnych grup w Firefoksie działa w całości na urządzeniu użytkownika, co ma zapewniać większą prywatność niż rozwiązania konkurencji (np. Google Chrome wysyła dane na zewnętrzne serwery). Lokalny model AI analizuje tytuły otwartych kart, aby zasugerować ich pogrupowanie i nazwanie. Niestety, ta operacja okazała się niezwykle zasobożerna, co doprowadziło do obecnych problemów z wydajnością.
Mamy też dobrą wiadomość: irytujące i zasobożerne funkcje AI w najnowszym Firefoksie można wyłączyć. W tym celu należy wpisać w pasku adresu about:config, zaakceptować ostrzeżenie, a następnie odnaleźć i zmienić wartość dwóch ustawień na false:
browser.tabs.groups.smart.enabled – wyłącza inteligentne grupowanie kart.
browser.ml.chat.enabled – wyłącza powiązaną funkcję chatbota AI.

I love middle click to paste and use it daily.
There is a little known feature in Chrome (and Firefox?): you can *middle click* on the new tab icon (the "+") and it will navigate to the URL you have in your primary clipboard.
This makes it so so fast to go to a bare URL shown in a terminal: double click and drag to select, middle click to open a new tab. Easy!
