TIL: why it’s ctrl+V
Larry Tesler, the creator of copy/paste, explains:
The Lisa was the first system to assign XCVZ to cut, copy, paste and undo (shifted with the “apple” key). I chose them myself. X was a standard symbol of deletion. C was the first letter of Copy. V was an upside down caret and apparently meant Insert in at least one earlier editor.

I love middle click to paste and use it daily.
There is a little known feature in Chrome (and Firefox?): you can *middle click* on the new tab icon (the "+") and it will navigate to the URL you have in your primary clipboard.
This makes it so so fast to go to a bare URL shown in a terminal: double click and drag to select, middle click to open a new tab. Easy!

Cut: Shift+Delete
Copy: Ctrl+Insert
Paste: Shift+Insert1990 would change that. Of course, the option-key shortcuts that Mac started in 1984 … ? Still waiting.

TIL that I can copy paste from a terminal using CTRL+SHIFT+c and CTRL+SHIFT+v on Linux, after 18 years of daily usage.
When you don't have a mouse, it's so much easier than using SHIFT+INSERT or right click copy, right click paste.

I created https://code.jws.app to replace https://gist.github.com in my workflow, and it looks promising, but embedding doesn't seem to be working well. You can see an example of what I am talking about at https://jws.app/2025/i-created-code-jws/.

I created Code.JWS
I was figuring out what I should and shouldn’t switch to hosting myself when I came across Paste. I spun up Code.JWS, wondering if it could replace CodePen, and it can’t, but it could maybe replace GitHub Gist. I’m going to keep it around for that. I used GitHub Gist for embedding code in JWS News, but Paste doesn’t seem to be able to do that out of the box.

Here’s a question. @paste_app is excellent. AND syncs reliably, quickly, and easily via iCloud.
Why on earth doesn’t #Apple smart (or is it called continuity?) past not work reliably?! I’m always going to find use for more advanced bits in apps like #Paste but some of these things should actually improve over time.
