P.S. More than 33 million Brazilians didn't vote in the first round, and we don't yet know how many will abstain today, but I bet it still will be huge. Perhaps many of them were overwhelmed by their daily struggles, and the time and emotional energy that political engagement demands simply didn't fit into their lives. I understand and share the joy of dunking on Trump, but please don’t do it this way:
- IQ is largely a nonsense metric
- Given its context and history, using IQ as an insult is playing with eugenicist fire
- Purporting to quantify “intelligence” at all is wildly problematic (we don’t even have a good definition of the thing we’re measuring here, folks)
- Purporting to quantify intelligence of someone at a •distance• is even wildly-er problematic
- Measuring human intelligence with an LLM is so off the problematic charts I don’t even know where to start
Find a better insult. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel with that guy. (“Like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory” was a pretty damn good one.) And if you (rightly) want to puncture his wild lies about his superintelligence, focus on his •lying• and not his IQ. Please and thank you.

As the US elections get near I see stacks of posts here along the lines of ‘you have to vote Dem. If you don’t and they win it’s your fault’. And ‘it’s not cool to opt out - it’s selfish/childish/ridiculous’
Those arguments are to fundamentally miss the point about why folks won’t vote for the mainstream parties. And they appear idiotic to those whose basic decency standards include just not being able to vote for genocide. 4eg.

Interesting that someone used AI to reverse engineer Adobe products and make them available as open source software.
Although I don't know where this is going legally I have zero sympathy for Adobe since they used their customers data without permission and any opt out, also corrupted way of cancelling subscriptions.
I left Adobe some time ago and replaced them with Affinity and Davinci Resolve.

On Friday it was 14 years since my estranged mother died.
I keep mentally prodding myself, as though there’s something I should be feeling. But I don’t. Feel anything that is.
We had been estranged for some 14 years before that, so I don’t know why I’m expecting this ‘something’.
I tolerated a lot of misery for the sake of others, but once my child was born I couldn’t bear to think of them being contaminated by any of it. So that was that.
I think I gained more than I lost. Though at times I still long for a(n unrealistic) family life. 🤷🏻♀️ Then I get annoyed with myself for wasting time thinking/wanting what I haven’t had instead of appreciating and making the best of what I do have.
