  1. On Friday it was 14 years since my estranged mother died.

I keep mentally prodding myself, as though there’s something I should be feeling. But I don’t. Feel anything that is.

We had been estranged for some 14 years before that, so I don’t know why I’m expecting this ‘something’.

I tolerated a lot of misery for the sake of others, but once my child was born I couldn’t bear to think of them being contaminated by any of it. So that was that.

I think I gained more than I lost. Though at times I still long for a(n unrealistic) family life. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Then I get annoyed with myself for wasting time thinking/wanting what I haven’t had instead of appreciating and making the best of what I do have.

  2. I’d no sooner posted than clouds rolled over and now it’s raining.

    Sorry I spoke!

  3. Wondered what I’d wake up to this morning, but all seems secure.

The wind is noisy but the house isn’t shaking or rattling as experienced in previous storms. There’s blue sky and sunshine but the poor trees are being shaken back and forth nonstop.

    Wishing everyone well.

I grew up in a village where pretty much everyone knew everyone else, and always acknowledged each other. If you went to town #BishopAuckland it was the same, you probably vaguely knew folk but it was standard practice, polite, to acknowledge people in passing.

What a culture shock when my mother moved us to the Quaker town of #DARLINGTON Woe betide you if you even caught the gaze of a stranger there (1960s and 1970s).

I didn’t know what had hit me.

I moved around with work. Time in Yorkshire made me see Darlo’ differently. Returning from Yorkshire made Darlington folk seem… well… ‘darling’.

And don’t get me started on my time in #Dundee

It’s a funny old world… Very, very glad to be back within my own culture in the north-east.

  5. Well, the rain has started…
