Anyways, the last part of today's research dive was more #Docker.
The most interesting discovery was #distroless images. I was familiar with #Alpine #Linux, but I hadn't really stumbled across distroless yet. Specifically I noticed that #Envoy shipped a distroless image, but neglected to really explain it short of "it's faster and better".
Google's distroless project is limited to standalone application runners (Node, Java), but #ChainGuard has their #Wolfi images that cover more bases. 👍

Anubis in ein bestehendes #Docker Setup integrieren ist übrigens super einfach, es kommt im Grunde nur zwischen Reverseproxy und App und aller Traffic geht dann einmal durch #Anubis.
Anubis präsentiert dann jedem Nutzer beim jeweils ersten Aufruf einer Seite eine Challange.

Ended up kicking Docker Hardened Images to the curb.
The good folks at #Docker decided to update their #Redis image to use a distro-less start (no shell, no other utilities) *without changing the image tag*.
So when I started up my #Mastodon server after an upgrade, my customization script wouldn’t run in the container and I had to scramble to find an alternative.
Basically, they broke the contract of immutable image version tags. Won’t trust them again, even if it did harden #security further.
So this server is back to a good ol’ upstream #PostgreSQL image on #AlpineLinux. And #Valkey on #Alpine, too, because Redis Ltd..’s software licensing shenanigans are sketchy.

Для взаимодействия требовалось применять предоставленный публичный доверенный сертификат сервера .cer и клиентский .pfx сертификат. Особенность в том, что .pfx сертификат был выпущен через CryptoPro CSP - а это вносит свои тонкости в процесс интеграции…
