Helped my brother-in-law tonight with installing his first NAS. He went for TrueNAS on a Beelink N150 (16 GB) with 2*256 Gb and 2*2TB SSDs. This should be plenty for his needs the coming years.
As a newbie he was a bit overwhelmed with creating install USB, configure storage, creating users and groups, set a fix IP via DHCP, install Newt to connect to my Pangolin instance. After that I could logon myself (had to do it remotely) and show him some final stuff, before we called it a day. Next session will be creating shares and setting permissions, so he can transfer his files. I will prepare an old NAS as backup target.
He did well and we had fun. Did not get all of it, but that was fully to be expected.

I swapped my domain from VentraIP to BinaryLane, but VentraIP was a much more fully featured and helpful platform.Trouble is I issue my Pangolin certs through lego (for Traefik for Pangolin), which doesn't support VentraIP. BinaryLane doesn't allow for much granularity in the access provided either, so my VPS has more access than I'm comfortable with.
Can anyone recommend any of Lego's other supported DNS providers, or have their own self maintaining approach for #Pangolin / #Traefik DNS-01 wildcard certificates that doesn't need to give lego access to your domain provider?

Well, that was painless...
I didn't want to go through the upgrade from Jellyseer to Seer on my TrueNAS machine (the upgrade path was a bit convoluted), so I just spun it up on another machine on my #homelab.
After dealing with folder permissions for the container, it was smooth sailing and I now have it running with no issues.
Bonus: changing the machine was even easier on #Pangolin, I only needed like 5 clicks and 4 key presses.

De, egyszerű mezei kockaként ezt szeretem a #homelab és #selfhosting dolgokban, hogy én magam rakom össze, én magam építem fel és annyi dolgot rakhatok rá és próbálhatok ki vele, hogy az hihetlen.
