  2. I've been casting my grief across the socials--I'm on 7 platforms--and I'm trying to figure out why.

Maybe I want the world to know someone beautiful and joyous is gone and putting away her life hurts so much.

Maybe I just need a place to scream.

    Today I start on papers.

  4. I broke my 5 night streak of "No Mastodon". Couldn't get to Night 6...

I detailed it on the pawb.fun instance. Tl;dr it did prove being on socials was never good to my brain. I lose sanity and other terrible mind stuff happens to me when I stay here and more so when people actually engage with my stuff...

Anyone who's on Mastodon, or Fediverse isn't at fault. I have a fault in my brain that, in actuality, I don't wanna fix. Being solitary has always been where I felt free, energized, and less sad and feelin' less like shit

So I'll be off now. But I'll leave y'all a nice music from the game I've been bingin' for the meantime I was out. Maybe this time I'll get to Night 7 and beyond, maybe even beyond than that. a 404 Error haha

    Sunny and Cold

The COVID booster kicked my ass all weekend. I’m still only at about 30% capacity, which is frustrating. But it beats the alternative, and I hope I’m on the upside of it now. I had to stop taking Tylenol to alleviate symptoms because it made the nausea worse (new and different).

You can read the Community Tarot Reading for the Week here. I managed to get it done in spite of feeling awful. This is our last week with the Halloween Tarot. Next week is November, and we move to a new month, and also a new spread for the coming year.

My intent for this week is basically to get through it and back on my feet. The cats have been champs through it all. Friday into Saturday (which was my worst night) was the only time they were difficult, but they settled down, and have been terrific.

I have a reasonably light week as far as commitments — one meeting on Wednesday, some errands, my mother’s 102nd birthday on Thursday. I have ghostwriting, and my own work. I’m also doing a few things to protect my sites from the Meta scraping. I’ve removed my lkn.bio from all Meta sites for now, and will also be part of the blackout from Oct. 30-Nov. 6.

Of course they do this as independent artists gear up for holiday shopping season. They can go straight to hell and brew in a tar pit.

That’s the best I can come up with in this state. Give me a few days, I’ll come up with something more interesting.

A close friend is having major surgery today, and there are a whole lot of us rooting for her.

Have a great week, and we’ll catch up tomorrow!

  10. i feel my heart healing. i feel like im on the end/conclusion of my "fuck off ai music" chapter. was so lovely to share that talk in a room surrounded by friends, including many of the people i mentioned in the talk. it was fun pointing out people in the audience... "lizzie wilson.... who's sitting RIGHT THERE". and to like spot people in the video clips i showed. "there's eggg RIGHT THERE". and i guess to kind of own the emotional side of 'fuck off ai music' that gets stripped out usually. i have no idea what it means but what i know is that i feel it and it resonates strongly and its brought me closer to people AND its forced me to question a lot of my own computer use... forced me to question a lot of the things i do.. has made me discover the true pen-on-paper origins of my influences..... making me turn off the screen and gives me imagination for drawing with friends

    anyway onto the next

  11. In August I left my job of 22 years to start my own company and travel. I decided this is a good place to share some of my journeys.

I’m going to try to post regularly.

  12. Back to my morning — feels way better. After two days in my barefoot shoes, I had to go back to my trusted Asics for this run. Quite a relief on the stony paths through our woods. Seldom has the weather been more perfect for a morning run, with the sun slowly rising and unfolding its power. I stopped frequently for pics, a small collection is attached. Have a great week, y’all!

  13. I said goodbye to my favourite running shoes. Ultralight, surprisingly protective whilst they had bounce but it's time to let them loose. I think I first wore them at Whitley Bay #parkrun.
It's been a different year with failing health but with many opportunities to celebrate. I had pre-booked three triathlons before I got my stage 4 #cancer diagnosis. Me and my running shoes have had a blast at Oxfordshire, Castle Hever and, yesterday Barcelona 🏊🚴🏃
I turned my ankle so hobbled over the line 🤣

  16. When I close my MacBook, the device locks and goes to sleep.

When you fold the iPhone Duo closed, it should close the app you have open and lock itself. But it doesn’t.

You can jury rig this behaviour though, using Apple Shortcuts.

  17. update on my WIP industrial ag zine:

starting in the early 1970s, the dream of scientific/industrial agriculture began to lose its shine for a variety of complicated reasons. although the dream lost some of its luster, the reality of industrial ag only intensified and globalized into the monstrous international network we have today.

as i'm picking out the pieces of text and images to include in the spread i'm calling "the end", i'm adjusting the visual style to match the visual style of the 1970s. we're done with the breathless "miracles!" of technicolor 1960s scientific ag and are now moving into a more grounded and restrained style, which i think is related to the contracting of american visions of progress that came with the oil crisis, intensification of the vietnam war, social movements exposing cracks in the american image of "abundance for all", the degradation of the american environment, and the hollowing out of cities with deindustrialization and white flight.

so below (on the left) is a little snippet of the spread - still in progress.

on the right is the cover of a 1974 USDA report called "protecting crops and the environment." i think it's an excellent example of "1970s business report" visual style.

btw, many thanks to the typography nerds who helped me identify the fonts used in some of the archival materials i'm using. "1970s business report" is such a distinct and instantly-recognizable visual style, and i wanted to evoke a bit of that. there was a lot of helvetica and i'm using "helvetica world", which is the only version of helvetica available for free on canva 🤷

  18. Price just dropped for my eBook: What Would an Alien Invasion Look Like

This is a speculative story imagining a future in which humanity encounters a more advanced species.Several scenarios how that encounter would begin and how it would end, based on what spacefaring economics requires from travelers.

It is a worthy exploration for scientific purpose, but also excellent for a Sci-Fi movie script.

  21. Y'know this crossed my mind during the movie but then I forgot:

This is straight up the best Lon Cheney Jr. performance I have ever seen, he was actually acting naturalisticly and delivering lines instead of reading them, and it was so good - and so _normal_ - that I _forgot I was sitting through Lon Cheney Jr._ and was able just to sit there and watch the film.

  22. I got my hearing aid last week. Now I'm adjusting to life with a hearing aid. The audiologist did not explain the entire process to me. I did not understand that there is a process from getting it to getting it adjusted. She didn't even spend much time on his to wear it. I guess it is a live and learn deal.
