  1. But on fire might be the new they don't expect to come:

People standing around them while celebrating their cherished , free from oppression.

  2. A quotation from Mark Twain

I was afraid of a united Church; it makes a mighty power, the mightiest conceivable, and then when it by and by gets into selfish hands, as it is always bound to do, it means death to human liberty and paralysis to human thought.

Novel (1889), A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, Part 3 “The Tale of the Lost Land,” ch. 10 “Beginnings of Civilization”

  7. A quotation from Horace

There was a stag, once, who could always defeat a stallion
And drive him out of their pasture — until, tired of losing,
The horse begged help of man, and got a bridle in return.
He beat the stag, all right, and he laughed — but then the rider
Stayed on his back, and the bit stayed in his mouth.
Give up your freedom, more worried about poverty than something
Greater than any sum of gold, and become a slave and stay
A slave forever, unable to live on only enough.

[Cervus equum pugna melior communibus herbis
pellebat, donec minor in certamine longo
    imploravit opes hominis frenumque recepit;
sed postquam victor violins discessit ab hoste,
non equitem dorso, non frenum depulit ore.
Sic qui pauperiem veritus potiore metallis
libertate caret, dominum vehet improbus atque
serviet aeternum, quia parvo nesciet uti.]

Horace (65–8 BC) Roman poet, satirist, soldier, politician [Quintus Horatius Flaccus]
Epistles [Epistularum, Letters], Book 1, ep. 10 “To Aristius Fuscus,” l. 34ff (1.10.34-41) (20 BC) [tr. Raffel (1983)]

Dude #2: "Like, I know, dude."

Dude #1: "So, like, what do I do to, like, not work?"

Dude: #2: "Like, you could call yourself king and, like, have others work for you."

Dude #1: "Wow, like, what's that?"

Dude #2: "Like, a king is a dude that doesn't work and, like, gives orders to others."

Dude #1: "Like, who would be so dumb to fall for that?"

Dude #2: "Nah, dude, like, you could say some gods or something named you king to, like, boss people around. People can't think for themselves, so, like, they'll go along with it."

Dude #1: Wow, like, that's a great idea, dude."

Dude #2: "Don't forget to establish a court and, like, make me your advisor. Can't stand work, neither."

  9. A quotation from Lincoln

Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation we began by declaring that “all men are created equal.” We now practically read it “all men are created equal, except negroes.” When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read “all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and catholics.” When it comes to this, I shall prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty — to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocrisy.

Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) American lawyer, politician, US President (1861-65)
    Letter (1854-08-24) to Joshua Speed

  10. A quotation from E. B. White

When liberty’s position is challenged, artists and writers are the ones who first take up the sword. They do so without persuasion, for the battle is peculiarly their own. In the nature of things, a person engaged in the flimsy business of expressing himself on paper is dependent on the large general privilege of being heard. Any intimation that this privilege may be revoked throws a writer into a panic. His is a double allegiance to freedom — an intellectual one springing from the conviction that pure thought has a right to function unimpeded, and a selfish one springing from his need, as a breadwinner, to be allowed to speak his piece.

    E. B. White (1899-1985) American author, critic, humorist [Elwyn Brooks White]
    Essay (1939-01), “One Man’s Meat,” Harper’s Magazine, Vol. 178

  22. Thomas Pynchon on ‚Liberty‘

„Unfortunately, young people,“ recalls the Revd, „the word Liberty, unreflectively sacred to us today, was taken in those Times to encompass even the darkest of Men’s rights,— to injure whomever we might wish,— unto extermination, were it possible,— Free of Royal advice or Proclamation Lines and such. This being, indeed and alas, one of the Liberties our late War was fought to secure.“

  23. This is such a straw man and false dilemma fallacy. People don’t have to work for either private capitalists or the state/collective/society. There is another alternative where people work for themselves individually or jointly: #EconomicDemocracy. This position isn’t justified with appeals to collective authority, but rather liberal individual inalienable #HumanRights theory.

  24. Hype for the Future 100Z: Town of Liberty, Indiana

Overview Though located across the state line from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, the Town of Liberty—and Union County at large—often shares cultural traits and heritage with the area associated with the university and the historic College Township. Under earlier definitions of the line between Indiana and Ohio, such as the Kentucky River definition, the area in which the Town of Liberty is located now would have been part of the modern State of Ohio.
