  4. Lobga #Rangzen joins the bravest of the brave. This amazing human being, a Free Tibet activist, set himself on fire and died a terrible death to draw attention to the repression going on in Tibet. There is a war on dissent and diversity going on in Tibet and other areas under Chinese domination that over the long term will not serve the Chinese people well. We must remember Lobga Rangzen, his example will live forever. phayul.com/solidarity-actions- #Freedom #Empathy #Liberty, Equality, Fraternity#

  6. I would like to see a one-panel comic with #trans versions (have penis - does not have to be visible, just implied) of Ladies #Liberty and #Justice pissing on a grave with a tombstone that says "47" (Like those peeing Calvin stickers)

I lack the skill to create it. But if the idea tickles enough people, maybe I will get to see some variations.

  8. It's about time the US sees anger among the masses... the entire political establishment is self-serving and enriching.

  9. A quotation from Voltaire

As you have it in your power, sir, to do some service to letters, I implore you not to clip the wings of our writers so closely, nor to turn into barn-door fowls those who, allowed a start, might become eagles; reasonable liberty permits the mind to soar — slavery makes it creep.

Voltaire (1694-1778) French writer [pseud. of Francois-Marie Arouet]
Letter (1733-06-20) to a First Commissioner [Lettre á un premier commis] [tr. Tallentyre (1919)]

  11. A quotation from Diderot

And his hands would plait the priest’s entrails,
For want of a rope, to strangle kings.

[Et ses mains ourdiraient les entrailles du prêtre,
Au défaut d’un cordon pour étrangler les rois.]

Denis Diderot (1713-1784) French editor, philosopher

  12. While the Statue of Liberty was designed and constructed in France, it had to be placed upon a solid base at its final destination. These foundations were laid according to Masonic tradition, with the cornerstone being set by William Brodie, Grand Master of Masons in New York, on 5 August 1884.

The record shows that it rained on that day.

🥹🤧 #France #capitalism #capitalisme #liberty #racisme #discrimination #climate #Europe #sexiste #MelonchonPrésident

  16. TIL on @wikipedia about the Black Tom explosion OTD in 1916 targeting munitions to be sent to the Allies during #WorldWar I.

It was one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in #history. At least 7 people were killed and damages to the harbour in #NewYorkCity were so extensive that the Statue of #Liberty was damaged! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_To

    Two spies for #Germany were imprisoned but released as part of Armistice;
Kurt Jahnke (died in #Russia ) and
    Lothar Witzke (became a #Nazi ).

  18. @therealitynetwork GOOD POSTS...
BUT a few flaws about Governments:

    - Governments exist to #war on their people (profit / over-power them) and sometimes to over-power others in other countries by providing them free #tech etc. #USPol

    - Never think Governments are going #save people or do things with the logic you assume towards #liberty / #sovereign tech etc (unless it's #money and #power in that #logic and sense).

The next good revolution is not with Governments but individuals together.

  22. A quotation from Salman Rushdie

Great art, or, let’s just say, more modestly, original art is never created in the safe middle ground, but always at the edge. Originality is dangerous. It challenges, questions, overturns assumptions, unsettles moral codes, disrespects sacred cows or other such entities. It can be shocking, or ugly, or, to use the catch-all term so beloved of the tabloid press, controversial. And if we believe in liberty, if we want the air we breathe to remain plentiful and breathable, this is the art whose right to exist we must not only defend, but celebrate. Art is not entertainment. At its very best, it’s a revolution.

Salman Rushdie (b. 1947) Indian novelist
Speech (2012-05-06), Arthur Miller Freedom to Write Lecture, PEN World Voices Festival, New York City

  23. A quotation from Eleanor Roosevelt

Will we ever learn to use reason instead of force in the world, and will people ever be wise enough to refuse to follow bad leaders or to take away the freedom of other people?

  25. A quotation from Montesquieu

The gods […] have attached to liberty almost as many misfortunes as to servitude.
