Been slowly working on a #libcosmic app. It's a presentation app for my ministry and church. I originally wrote it in #C++ and #QML, but have since rewritten part of the backend to #rust with the help of #CXX-QT. This still gave me a really tricky system and I decided to investigate rust ui libraries. Seeing #system76 develop #cosmic in rust with #iced, I decided to try it, and it's working quite nice thus far. Some rough edges, but I can't wait to see it come to fruition.

Installed #cosmic de on my nixos workstation today because I've been trying to build an app using #libcosmic and #iced. Wow! #system76 should be very proud of what they are building. Its going to be awesome, sure it crashed on me many times, but the way it works is honestly super cool!

I’m looking for a beefy prebuilt linux desktop for running local test workloads. (simulation of 1000s of nodes of a system).

Linux support needs to be great. I've looked at System76 but prices are quite high.

- 500GB Nvme storage
- Ryzen with at least 8 cores, 16 would be better
- min 32 GB RAM

Recommendations?

@nobodyinperson how are you managing multiple #NixOS #RapberryPi configurations?

I only have a new #FrameWork and legacy #System76, laptops, and my configurations are already divergent. I plan to add my Pi's into the mix, but need a better strategy.

#GitOps doesn't seem to cut it, and, though I know it would work, think I should go for something more idiomatic than #Ansible templates. I've seen some very interesting #NixOps setups, but https://github.com/NixOS/nixops?tab=readme-ov-file#nixops says it's in maintenance mode!?!

I needed to replace my #Linux #Gaming desktop machine, and wanted an all-#AMD system.

I started out leaning towards a #Tuxedo machine, but shipping costs ate into my budget.

This is not Tuxedo's fault, they make excellent hardware, it's just a function of them being based far enough away from me that shipping is a real factor.

In the end, I went with a #System76 #Thelio.

I don't have to think about my system at all. Want to play game X? Buy it, install it, play it.
