You can now upgrade Ubuntu from 24.04 LTS to 26.04.1 LTS

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Resolute Raccoon was released back in April 2026 when it provided you with many new features, such as GNOME 50 that provided improved performance and better fractional scaling, systemd 259, and APT 3 that provided enhanced appearance and improved package dependency resolution, thus fixing a decades-old interface bug while providing a more comfortable appearance.

Starting from today, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS users can finally upgrade to the newer Ubuntu long-term support release, which is Ubuntu 26.04.1 Resolute Raccoon, to take advantage of new features and enhancements. This opens the path for users who prefer upgrading from an older LTS release to a more recent LTS release instead of interim releases.

Users will start receiving update notifications through Update Manager, with the rollout happening progressively throughout coming days, so you may or may not see the update notification yet. However, we advise that you perform a system backup, including your files, and read the changelogs that you can see here before upgrading, in case something goes wrong.

Additionally, you can perform an upgrade from the command line with:
