  2. If you are not familiar with overlays, or need a refresher of the other significant reasons to avoid them, check out the Overlay Fact Sheet, which now has over 1000 signatories (!).

From the Fact Sheet: "Overlays are a broad term for technologies that aim to improve the accessibility of a website. They apply third-party source code (typically JavaScript) to make improvements to the front-end code of the website."

  4. Y’all. Recently I reimagined my newsletter and moved a self-hosted version of Listmonk. And over the weekend I sent my first email.

Here’s a link to the first issue. It’s my first pass; a work in progress. But the foundation feels solid.

Maybe you wanna subscribe via email or RSS so you can get some cool links. Or not. Whatevs.

  7. When creating alternative text, the context in which an image is used in a publication is important. I am currently exploring various ways to extract and use it for the generation process.

Would that be helpful to you? Have you had experience with this? Let me know!

  8. I've just installed RetroArch and enabled its accessibility on one of my macs, as I've been wanting to play games with this thing for a while.
Anyone have some recommendations for some accessible games and cores on it?
I haven't set up any of its AI stuff, as it seems a bit complicated to me, so I'm only using standard accessibility in there.

  9. Today, I would like to share with you a very interesting project. It's called Musona, and it's unlike anything I have ever seen. It is just for fun, so it's not meant to be taken seriously or used for researching things and so on. It's an ai companion, that can range from a stranger you must get to know, to a friend, to a love interest, to a partner, etc. You choose. What sets it apart from others is that it has a virtual life while you're away. When you return, it will tell you what it did that day, and can even introduce you to its friends. These are not the companions of other real people but are ai generated. It will remember your preferences and previous conversations and can reference them later. You can also delete conversations if you choose. The developer is very kind and genuinely cares about feedback. To that end, he has implemented full screen reader support, keyboard navigation, and high contrast. You can learn more at this link. I have tried it and love it.

  14. If you want to join apositive subreddit for the blind, try r/BlindandFine. The subject matter is far less strict than at r/blind, since not everything needs to be related to blindness. This is more of a place where we can get to know each other and have fun. We allow sighted people to join as well, and we welcome questions about blindness if they are genuine, requests for feedback on surveys or technology about/for the blind, etc. However, I do ask that you join only if you are eighteen or older. Please also note that this is not a therapy/support group. If you need that, then r/blind is for you.

    Thanks for the alert!

Sadly, I don't know anyone living in those 9 states who could call/write.

But there's a note saying other folks should contact the Texas Attorney General’s office using this email:

    [email protected]

"Tell them that people across the country are watching this case, and that the disability community — and everyone who supports civil rights — expects better."

    I'll be sending an email!

  18. Wow! The updated Oorion app, linked to Meta AI glasses is fantastic. I was out for a short walk with a sighted guide but decided to test it out. I told Oorion to keep telling me if the path ahead of me was clear, and it did. It warned of lampposts, other pedestrians and a car parked on the pavement. It wasn’t perfect, and it doesn’t do any navigation for you, but if you know your route and want to avoid any obstacles, this is a wonderful advance for blind folk. It’s a bit of a battery killer and the app does block any other app from using the phone, but it’s the closest thing to live video feedback we’ve seen so far.

Dodajemy opisy do obrazów (alt text).
Opis mówi, co jest na obrazku.

    Dodajemy opisy:
    – do nowych obrazów
    – oraz do tych, które już były na stronie

Dzięki temu więcej osób może korzystać z Kontrabandy.
Na przykład osoby, które używają czytnika ekranu.

    To robimy krok po kroku.

  23. There's an issue with the accessible room on tonight's Crescent back to Philly. Amtrak automatically tried to put me in a roomette on the upper level, knowing I travel with a rollator. While I appreciate the efforts of trying to keep me on my reserved train, you can't just put someone on the upper level of a train, knowing they have a mobility device, without asking them first.

tl;dr: I'm in Atlanta an extra day.

  24. 2nd Event scheduled for Sunday, April 12th!

    #Ireland - #ToyLibrary launches #Sensory #SwapAndPlay events for children with additional needs

    By avondhupress - April 10, 2026

"A social enterprise set up to help reduce and recycle plastic toys, has launched sensory swap and play events for children with additional needs.

"The first such event from The Toy Library, took place in the Aula Maxima in University College Cork (UCC) with a second event scheduled for the Kilnamanagh Family Resource Centre in #Dublin on Sunday, April 12th.

"The Toy Library is the country’s first digital toy-sharing platform and has hosted swap and play events around the country for the past 18 months. It has successfully reduced the amount of plastic toys being disposed of with figures recorded at the end of 2025 showing 4.78 tonnes of plastic have been saved so far.

"The sensory events offer families and children with additional needs a safe and welcoming play space with structured layouts, quieter zones and access to carefully selected developmental and sensory toys. The initiative was set up in response to feedback from parents within the Toy Library community."

  25. Question for blind Twitch streamers. How do you set up your OBS to have a good sound quality? I have my Shure SM58LCE microphone but it's sound is pretty quiet without any configuration as expected. I think how I could add effects to OBS as VST plug-ins but I am not sure configuring these plug-ins like iZotope RX de-esser is accessible in OBS itself. I have an idea to add plug-ins from Reaper but I am not sure about others. My Yamaha AG03 mixer has it's own effects and they are configured, but I think I could achieve more with VST plug-ins that I can control. What is your experience? #Accessibility #Twitch #OBS #Streaming

  26. Can anyone tell me what on Earth is going on with the new TweeseCake? The update process was very strange. I hit enter, and instead of simply downloading and installing the update, it opened the Windows terminal! I had no idea what I was supposed to do next, since no commands were entered, nor did I hear anything about installation, so I just closed it. Now, it says I'm on the latest version, but most things in my timeline keep showing up as "list item" with nothing being read. This is the second time they made an update and I had to revert back to 0.18. I am genuinely confused as to why it's doing this.
