  1. I've already had to re-authorize #Tweesecake for both my Mastodon accounts three times in just as many days. Every time I put the computer to sleep and come back to it the next day, reloading previous posts does nothing to catch me up, and my timelines refuse to update until I delete the session and re-add it. I had an issue at one point where switching screenreaders killed the client's ability to speak while in the invisible interface, which I think has gone away, but I sort of wonder if that's what's broken... if my switching screenreaders is still breaking things spectacularly but in a different fashion.

  2. What on earth? I just updated #Tweesecake, and now it doesn't read things to me, just their number, and even that is only put on my braille display.

  3. There is quoted post support with #Tweesecake now. Why is it still that with some posts, I get something like "re: insert long URL here, person's comment" and then no reference post? Are there people manually posting in this format? Argh.

  4. Can anyone tell me what on Earth is going on with the new TweeseCake? The update process was very strange. I hit enter, and instead of simply downloading and installing the update, it opened the Windows terminal! I had no idea what I was supposed to do next, since no commands were entered, nor did I hear anything about installation, so I just closed it. Now, it says I'm on the latest version, but most things in my timeline keep showing up as "list item" with nothing being read. This is the second time they made an update and I had to revert back to 0.18. I am genuinely confused as to why it's doing this.

  5. Thanks folks @app especially for lists support! I've been missing it from my old good Twitter times! #Mastodon #Blind #TweeseCake

  6. Not too long after I asked if #Tweesecake had been abandoned, it gets updated. Certainly intriguing, but the keymap used for composing a post in the invisible interface doesn't bring up the new post dialogue. It looks like Windows 11 is grabbing it because I get a notification that comes up which says, "New notification from File Explorer, Error generated while getting the trace." The keystroke I did use for that now changes the nickname for a particular user. I wish there were a way to assign keystrokes from within the app, as those who aren't tech savvy are going to have a really hard time figuring things out. I'm finding I have to use the actual interface more and more for things because of key conflicts with one thing or another, which kinda voids the purpose of having an invisible interface, which is a lot of what I like about TWC and similar clients.

  7. Okay guys. Has #Tweesecake been abandoned? I'm kinda feeling like users of this mastodon client have been rather severely left out to dry.

  8. Guess who's using TweeseCake with Windows 7! Just one more program to go, and then, I can officially return to using it as my daily system! This program isn't essential, but it would be nice to be able to use it. Regardless, I will definitely be going to sleep with a huge smile on my face now! I love the Kex program.

  9. Evening mastofolks.
So I've just loaded up #Tweesecake, to find three mentions, each giving an identical urgent update about a family in danger, saying that a $50 can save the lives of this family...
Yet when I try to look at the account posting these updates, there's no user information to show.
Not sure, but thinking these might be false updates.

  10. *If anyone can help me with this, I would sincerely appreciate it. I have no interest in discussing whether Windows 7 is supported or not. I know it's not, and I am choosing to use it. I have everything I need, except a Mastodon client, so right now, I am using 11. And no, I have no interest in Linux either.*
I normally use TweeseCake, but it doesn't work on Windows 7, and it's closed source, so there is no way of changing that. Apparently, there is a version of TWBlue that did, but I can't find it. I just tried a client called Fast SM, and it's wonderful. However, it doesn't work on 7 either. Judging by the Github page, it seems to be written in Python. I am not a programmer, but would it be possible to get modern TwBlue or Fast SM to work with Windows 7? Both of these are open source. If not, then does anyone have the old version of TWBlue?

Finally, it seems that, unlike TweeseCake, the others have some sort of retrieval limit. If, for example, I'm not on Mastodon for a day or two and have 400 notifications, TweeseCake shows all of them. But the others only show a certain number far below that. Why is this, and can it be changed?

As a side note, I tried Whalebird and it was an absolute disaster with NVDA.

  14. Maybe I've missed something, but is there another #Mastodon client for #Windows besides #Tweesecake that is reasonably accessible? Apart from web interfaces.

  15. About two months ago, I somehow sat on my keyboard (I'm using a Toughpad, so it's external), and I heard "the current window is muted". I was using TweeseCake at the time. No matter whom I asked or what I did, I couldn't figure out how to unmute it. This only affected TweeseCake, and only when using the built-in speaker, as it worked fine with my Skull Candy Ounce. The other day, on a whim, I began researching it again and I found the answer. Apparently, Windows 11 has a feature that allows users to mute sounds in specific programs. They can be unmuted by typing "volume" in the search box in the start menu, then tabbing to "apps". There, you will see a list of all the programs that are running. Arrow down to the one you want, and then hit tab. There, you should see a mute or unmute button, depending on your current setting. I still haven't found the shortcut that I pressed to start this mess, but at least I now know how to fix it. I hope this helps someone.

  16. Good evening mastofolks.
Does anyone on here use #QFeed? I just bought it and the user interface is indeed very accessible. Unfortunately, however, none of the 18 feeds I've tried to add could be recognised by the software. Anything I'm doing wrong? I know these are valid feeds, as #Tweesecake has accepted them in the past.
    Cheers for any help.

  17. OK another stupid thing, whenever you try to play a radio stream, you get the following: You are unable to perform this action without a license. Please check your internet connection and try again.
    #Tweesecake

  18. And this is your lesson for the day, not to make your software reliant on phoning home to an activation server to simply work, otherwise your users are gonna have a hard time when outages happen #Tweesecake

  19. I am noticing something quite disturbing. I use #TweeseCake with #NVDA to read posts here. Most of the time, #AltText reads correctly. But sometimes, it appears as if none was written at all. Yet, when I go to the page of the post in question using Firefox, I can read the alt text. I have no idea what is going on. But twice I have replied to such posts asking for alt text, only to learn that it was there! Please, if there is a way to resolve this, I ask that someone either tell me or that the developers work on a sollution. It's not fair when people add these wonderful descriptions to their posts, only to receive such messages from us, just because our software didn't read them.

  20. Hey #Tweesecake users,

What's the name of the folder you're supposed to create inside of the unzipped folder to turn the app into a portable copy?

    Thanks

  21. The Muppet Central forum feed is dead and the website won't load. This is concerning. If nothing else, how do I get rid of it in Tweesecake if it's dead? Now it just says "unknown feed" and won't let the other feeds load in the order they're supposed to. #Muppets #Tweesecake

  22. I blocked someone so that I won't see his posts. Yet I keep seeing them, not merely in boosts but also from him directly. I checked, and there is an option to unblock, to clearly, he is still blocked. Again, this is with TweeseCake, which also doesn't respect the filters that I set on Mastodon itself, and now isn't playing sounds. It's a good client otherwise, but this really annoys me.

    #accessibility #blind #TweeseCake

  23. *Update. I still need help. I just deleted the data/roaming folder, as well as the portable TweeseCake folder. I then copied the portable Tweesecake folder from my thumb drive, reauthorised my accound (for the second time today) and signed in. Still, there is no sound! I just opened TWBlue (it's working for once) and its sounds are working. I have no idea what is going on or how to fix it!*
I lost the sound in TweeseCake. Somehow, I hit something and NVDA said "current window muted". I restarted NVDA, but that didn't help. I tried the unmute session hotkey from TweeseCake deleted the TweeseCake folder from Data/Roaming, then resigned into my account, then restarted Windows, and still, there are no sounds when I make, like, or boost posts, or when new ones arrive, etc. And yes, I did check the volume. Other sounds in Windows work. How do I fix this?

  24. Hmm, looks like we all better get good at using things like Enafore, because I'm almost certain #TweeseCake won't support this new quote feature that's rolling out.

  25. I want to view my timeline without all of the nonsense that I worked so hard to filter out. TweeseCake does not respect my filters but TWBlue does. However, every time I try to start it, it says that it quit unexpectedly and it won't start. I then have to close it from the task manager. Despite appearing to be portable, it's not, and some information is stored on my machine. But I can't figure out where so that I can delete it and try to start the program again. Can anyone please help me or suggest a better accessible Windows client for Mastodon? I really hate this, since TweeseCake allows for editing of posts, but I don't want to see these things in my timeline.

  29. I am now on piefed.social as, of course, dandylover1. I just joined a few days ago and haven't really started using it, other than to unsubscribe from a huge list of instances? accounts? topics? that I was subscribed to without my knowledge, all because I said I liked a few things. It might be a good idea to give people a list of these so that we could choose for ourselves. Also, when reading comments, every time I hit the down arrow, NVDA says "comments tree view' even while reading a single comment! It gets very annoying very quickly, and I'm not sure how to stop it from occurring. Other than that, the site seems to be quite accessible. It seems, also, that I can subscribe to some of the same places with this account here on Mastodon, but that might be confusing, since I receive so many things in my timeline from other people and pages, or whatever they're called. There are too many names for the same thing. Anyway, does anyone know if PieFed works with TweeseCake or TWBlue?

  31. TWBlue respects my filters but TweeseCake doesn't. Why? I worked hard on them so that I wouldn't see this rubbish in my timeline! At first, I was just seeing old posts that were made prior to my inacting the filters, so I ignored it. But now, I saw some posts that showed up in my TweeseCake timeline but not the one in TWBlue. This is very frustrating. If TWBlue had editing capabilities, and less urgently, pinning/unpinning, and proper display of favourites, I would use it more often!

  33. *Update. Okay! Never mind my previous update! TweeseCake does not respect my filters. I just saw one of my flagged words in a new post!*
*Update. It seems that I was wrong about TweeseCake not respecting my filters. When I examined them more closely, I found that the posts which contained the words that I filtered out were from prior to my doing so. So far, I haven't seen any new ones, thank goodness!*
I finally got the new version of TWBlue to work, and I am very disappointed to find that it still! doesn't offer the ability to edit posts! It is clearly possible to do so, since TweeseCake can and Mastodon certainly can. Why is such an important feature not included here? It does, however, offer the ability to pin and unpin posts and to work with filters, which TweeseCake doesn't. It also seems that, although there is an option to view them, TweeseCake doesn't show favourites. That section is always blank, no matter how many posts I like. TWBlue shows them, though as with many of its other features, it only shows forty. Can't someone just create a client that actually contains all of the features of Mastodon? And before someone says "do it yourself", I am not a programmer. Both clients are excellent for most things. It just frustrates me that, if I really wanted to do everything via a client, I have to use two of them just to accomplish my goals. Fortunately, unlike Akkoma and especially Friendica, someplace.social really is accessible from the main site.

  35. In TweeseCake, if I boost something, how can I have Firefox open my actual boost of it and not the original page? Also, how can I get it to open the page of a post to which I am replying i.e. not just the page with the last comment, but the original post.

Is there a way, either on Mastodon itself or in TweeseCake, to make posts with content warnings be displayed normally without having to click on them? I find most content warnings to be laughable, since the reasoning behind them is often ridiculous.

  38. One of the things that, one of the things that, one of the things that really annoys me with TweeseCake is that, whenever there's a new post, and I am trying to read something, it starts from the beginning, as I did here, instead of just making the sound to indicate a new post. There seems to be no way to stop it. It's fine when my timeline is fairly quiet, but when it gets very busy, I have to keep stopping, copy the post I'm trying to read, then paste it into Notepad so that I can read it without interruption. I really hope this issue is resolved in the next version. This is why, sometimes, I switch to TWBlue, eventhough it lacks some features, like the all-important one of being able to edit my posts. Not to mention that I can never get the updated version to work.

Hello. For the sake of honesty, Georgiana Brummell is not my legal name, but it is what I use. I live in New Jersey and am forty-two years old. Some of my interests include studying dandyism, nineteenth-century English grammar, Upper Received Pronunciation, the Italian language, British history, the Regency, opera, and MS-DOS. I like coffee, tea, wine, cooking, reading, watching nature and historical documentaries, gardening, hot weather, and playing cards and dice. I love opera, particularly singers from the 1940-s and earlier, classical music, from Baroque through early Romantic, and popular music from the 1950's through the 1970's, along with some acoustic recordings. I prefer antique menswear and accessories. I love wit, wordplay, and dry humour without vulgarity. I am happily childfree, am not religious, speak my mind and am against political correctness. I also love cats. I have been totally blind since I was two months old, due to Retinopathy of Prematurity.

  47. Does anyone know what is happening with TWBlue? Every time I try to update it, it doesn't work. The old version works correctly. I just deleted it from my spare computer and downloaded the portable version, which is what I normally use. I ran it and told it to update. I authorised my account, but when I started it, it asked about donations, then quit. When I tried it on my primary computer, it kept saying that there was an error, to the point that I just deleted it and restored the old version. Is anyone else having this problem? While we're on the subject of accessible Fediverse clients, does anyone know if TweeseCake is receiving an update soon? It still doesn't work with Akkoma, though it does work with Friendica. I have no idea why.

  48. I am unable to view or even edit my sent posts in TweeseCake with Blob.cat! I have no idea why. Maybe, it's different enough from Mastodon (the actual network that TweeseCake is meant to work with) that it won't allow me to do it. Sometimes, I honestly have half a mind to just give up all social networking accept Dreamwidth, because it's the only place that is completely accessible. I don't have to beg developers to make things screenreader-friendly, or hope it will work with this client or that website because I can't do x on the main one, or that y feature that worked on one site will be accessible on the next one. It just works. Say what you like about Facebook, but the Basic Mobile site (not app) worked. I hardly had any problem with it. Then, they closed it, and I left because their main site is a nightmare to work with. Now, I'm in the Fediverse, feeling as if I'm using the main Facebook site all over again!

I don't blame the administrators of friendica.world or blob.cat. It's not their fault. They're just working with what they have. Both are wonderful human beings who have been very kind to me. It's not even the fault of the developers of both sites. It makes sense, when you're a small business or a single developer, not to know about things such as accessibility. I just wish more people would learn and/or write things in semantic html or offer some kind of text-only or basic version of their site. I know that Deque University and Geeks4Geeks teach accessibility and teach html with accessibility included, respectively, but I guess other sites and books don't. As for TweeseCake, this is an excellent client for the blind that works well with Friendica and probably even better with Mastodon. But again, it's by a single developer. While changes are coming, people do have lives and other committments, and one person can't be expected to work as quickly as a huge company.

By the way, my Dreamwidth account is here. I must update it slightly, as I have some new entries to post for the month.

  49. Has everyone except Dreamwidth and the makers of TweeseCake forgotten how to make an edit page/option that is actually easy to use? It's an absolute mess on the Friendica page itself, so that it could take me up to ten minutes just to be able to edit a post, and Enafore, which is supposed to be an improvement on Semafore has an edit page that is completely inaccessible with NVDA. It just says "Dialogue". Whatever happened to choosing "edit" and having a normal page open, with edit boxes, combo boxes, and a "save" button? See Dreamwidth's page for a perfect example of this, both for creating and editing posts.

TweeseCake also works wonderfully, but it only allows you to go back so far in your own posts. There is no way to enter a link and have TweeseCake open it.

  50. After a bit of research, I learned that TWBlue is open source, and that, while the current version is only for 64-bit machines, there is a 32-bit version. There is also a 32-bit version specifically designed to work with Windows 7. Whether that's the same as the regular one, I don't know, but it does exist. However, since it has some extremely important features that TWBlue lacks, such as editing posts and profiles, etc. I prefer TweeseCake. However, it seems that there is only a 64-bit version. Am I wrong? Is it closed source? I would love to be able to work strictly from my Windows XP or 7 virtual machines, but this is the one program I must use in 11, and I ultimately find myself using 11 for everything, which I don't wish to do. I don't know of any other truly accessible clients for Friendica, other than these two.
