  1. I do love my Meta glasses but they are frustrating when they don’t work. Since the last iOS update, when I ask the glasses to make a call or send a message, they say, “Open the Meta AI app to reconnect. If it is already open, try restarting it”.
I’ve done more than that. I even deleted and reinstalled the Meta AI app and reconnected my glasses but they still won’t make calls or send messages. Every other function works as it should, and they’ll read incoming messages no problem. Wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this. I’m hoping for an app update because I don’t know what else I can try.

  3. Wow! The updated Oorion app, linked to Meta AI glasses is fantastic. I was out for a short walk with a sighted guide but decided to test it out. I told Oorion to keep telling me if the path ahead of me was clear, and it did. It warned of lampposts, other pedestrians and a car parked on the pavement. It wasn’t perfect, and it doesn’t do any navigation for you, but if you know your route and want to avoid any obstacles, this is a wonderful advance for blind folk. It’s a bit of a battery killer and the app does block any other app from using the phone, but it’s the closest thing to live video feedback we’ve seen so far.

  5. Went to the gym for some exercise this morning. After showering, I had to find a seat while I waited for my lift home. I used the Oorion app and asked it to search for a couch as I know there are some comfortable couches in the reception area. Not only did it find 1, it warned me that there were 2 people sitting there. So a quick scan found another one for me. I was so impressed that when I received a message that my lift had arrived, I used the app to find the main door. Again, it worked well, even telling me the door was a sliding automatic door with a metal frame and clear panels.

  7. My wife took her car to the garage for its annual service. Then she messaged me to ask what her registration number is.
Bear in mind that I’m blind and have never seen the car, let alone the Reg plate, while she’s literally got the car with her.
Just as well I took a note of the number in my Notes app.

  9. Other than the fact that traveling in Manhattan as a blind person has gotten more and more complex/confusing/frustrating over the years, I've decided never ever to go to time square in the evenings, especially around 7th and 45-48.

  13. The domestic #Football season in #Scotland has started already. #DundeeUnited got off to their traditional awful start by losing to a team from a lower division. That was bad enough, but battling with their updated and “improved” website for listening to commentary was a real struggle. Unlabelled links and missing buttons made tuning in a real trial. No doubt, as before, they’ll get the #Accessibility sorted out by the end of the season, then they’ll improve the site again.

  15. You’d think by now that I’d learn not to leave cupboard doors open, especially if they are at head height. But no, I managed to give myself a right sore one yesterday. #Ouch #Blind #BlindAdventures

  17. Damn! Not having a good day as regards breaking things. Dropped a plate which smashed, knocked over a glass which now has a large chip in the rim, then brushed against a photo frame and sent it tumbling. I reckon this is a good excuse to sit down & do nothing for the rest of the day.

  19. I don’t often print stuff from my PC. The printer itself is OK, but the related app is not very accessible with #JAWS. One thing I can’t do is check the ink levels in the cartridges. Today I discovered they were empty when I proudly handed my wife a couple of sheets I’d printed off for her, and she told me they were completely blank.
I then had to battle with the Amazon app on my phone to order replacements. Instead of adding them to my basket, I kept opening feedback screens related to adverts. I think I eventually managed to complete the order. I’ll find out if I’ve ordered the correct cartridges when they arrive. Then I’ll have the joy of figuring out how to replace them. I suspect #AIRA may be getting a call.
