Yeah, installed some Linux today 🐧
After 6 years of Windows only on my desktop, I took some time today and installed CachyOS (based on ArchLinux, which I used around 2010) on my old Ubuntu partition. I'm still experimenting around but I'm looking forward to replace Windows nearly completely. KDE on CachyOS looks awesome and Proton, Steam et al are much better today than 6 years ago.
Another step in my crusade to de-enshittify my digital life 😄 -

Installing #Docker in #Linux today to self-host a wiki. I'm doing this so that I can make/transfer my #TTRPG and #WorldDesign stuff to a format that doesn't rely on outside hosting or nonfree tools (I've been using Obsidian for ages).
Is there an easier way to do this? Sure! I could just use TiddlyWiki or FeatherWiki. I could use different note taking software, or even (gasp!) a simple text editor. Or hell, I could use a Word Processor.
But none of those much easier options would teach me Docker. Also, I could have them set up in like two seconds, which means I'd have to actually start writing.
And you know what? Owlbears are total procrastinators.

Weird experience.
My original goal was to use #btrfs according to https://blackpine.io/posts/2022.04.14-installing-debian-11-with-btrfs-subvolumes-on-luks/ which failed miserably. I couldn't change back from the console with ctrl + d and or ctrl+alt+f1 as described in the text. And also df didnt show the partitions I thought I created beforehand. So I just used the graphical installed with crypted LVM partitions instead. -

Nitrocid KS Official AUR Released for Arch Linux
Nitrocid KS is continuing to thrive with brand new versions that won’t stop exciting you, but we’ve prepared very big news for all of the Linux lovers who’s using Arch Linux (but only vanilla). Nitrocid KS was available as a Debian package a long time ago, which we’re proud of, despite big amount of work, but we’re introducing something brand new.
We are more than thrilled to announce that Nitrocid KS is now available as an official AUR repository for Arch Linux users!
According to our plan, the Debian packaging for Nitrocid KS would be split into the following packages:
- nitrocid-25: Nitrocid KS 0.1.0 (with mod API version 3.0.25.x)
- nitrocid-26: Nitrocid KS 0.1.1 (with mod API version 3.0.26.x)
- nitrocid-27: Nitrocid KS 0.1.2 (with mod API version 3.0.27.x)
The split went very well, so we had a chance to push the same efforts to Arch Linux AUR, together with the help of PKGBUILD files licensed under the 0BSD license as required. We’ve even went as far as to introduce bleeding-edge versions of PKGBUILD files, considering their nature, while maintaining offline builds to preserve Internet bandwidth. As a result, we’ve created the following packages:
- nitrocid-25: Release version of 0.1.0
- nitrocid-25-git: Canary version of 0.1.0
- nitrocid-26: Release version of 0.1.1
- nitrocid-26-git: Canary version of 0.1.1
- nitrocid-27 (not released yet): Release version of the upcoming 0.1.2
- nitrocid-27-git: Canary version of the upcoming 0.1.2
You can use one of the AUR helpers, such as Yay, to install one or more of the version series. Please note that you can’t install both the Git version and the regular version of the same series, as files conflict with each other in both of these packages.
Please note that we only officially support the vanilla version of Arch Linux, not its derivatives, such as Manjaro or EndeavourOS, since the Arch Linux AUR packages are made to use the latest versions of packages available in the Arch Linux repositories.

Been poking at #tuntap in #Linux today… trying to figure out how to dissect Ethernet frames…
This is something I wrote some time back, but now I've got some time, I've circled back and expanded it a little. Somewhere, I wrote a tool that basically piped frames to/from stdio, so that it could run privileged under `sudo` from a Python subprocess.
I'll have to dig that code out. At least now though, I have some better idea how to pick things apart.

A day late for #DIDit but I installed #bazzite Linux today on my #gaming PC.
Dual boot to Windows still works, thanks to @WenAstar and @mdione for tips and l encouragement in that regard.
Had some issues with the existing Steam library, because it was NTFS and mounted wrong. #StardewValley worked anyway, but #Dorfromantik and #Enshrouded needed the correct mount options.
Looking forward to not having to resort to WSL anymore when I want to do some programming on that PC. -
