I've just delivered file for my first serious #videoediting job done with #Kdenlive. ~25 hours of editing work, most spent with the software. I am impressed with the progress since version 18. There's still some jagged edges that drew blood, but not nearly to the extent as ~decade ago. I don't think I have cursed in frustration yet which is new and refreshing. Using any libre NLE used to be pure pain.

Testing #Lightworks 2026 beta on #UbuntuStudio #Linux now.
Looks like I gonna buy the upgrade for the perpetual license. My history with #LWKS is a bit of a difficult one. Being behind Resolve and many other professional #NLE tools, LWKS had improved quite a bit, but on the way introduced some bugs, one of them keeping me from editing completely. It took them a while, but eventually they had a new developer taking care of me and "my" bug and he finally resolved it, just when I was about to switch to Resolve. Yet Resolve on Ubuntu is a pain in the back, and it also has bugs that are nasty, and its free version won't even *read* h264/h265 (for most people equivalent to MP4). It is a lot more sluggish on my elderly Xeon workstation. Worst of all, I don't need it and I don't want to learn it at the moment.
The new Lightworks Beta looks pretty and I really like its layout editor with which one can create custom GUI layouts, like this FX editor of mine here.

I’ve been using it for a few days and I’m thrilled. Instead of a pile of half-baked single tools, I now have one suite with familiar workflows, and no subscription!

The programs are brand new. A few things still stutter a tiny bit, but they’re being improved all the time. I use them in my own workflows and, as I said, I’m absolutely thrilled.
At first I thought it was too good to be true. So I checked the installers and the GitHub repo: virus scanner plus a review with Claude. Nothing stood out to me, at least.
A big thank you to the developers for making these tools freely available to the creative community.
