  1. #AlertBayShipyards now #abandoned & #decaying - it's falling into the ocean, slowly. #Panorama shot of part of the old #shipyard & a sketchy, wobbly & crooked boardwalk to dock w/abandoned building that nature is reclaiming back. Lots of moss, plants & baby trees are growing all over it.

  2. Just finished #thelastcampfire and omg *single tear*. What a lovely game/app. Beautiful to look at, bittersweet story that resonated with my mentally wobbly brain, just-right play that was deceptively challenging at times. Can recommend! #games #iPhoneGame #app

  3. Gosh. Look at this. The otherwise useless* little tablet table contains 100% compatible #LEGO city #train track! What a fun play feature!

*probably nice on paper and in marketing photos. Unfortunately it's very high up and, due to the wobbly nature of the Talgo, tablets and phones fall off. Also anything you watch is fully in view for multiple people behind and next to you. It's anecdotal but every single person I've seen using it stopped after a couple of minutes.

  4. #TransMusicMonday ...on Wednesday

    Artist: Ezra Furman

    (2/2)

When I developed a temporary needle phobia and mental block to doing my HRT injection, the song "Lousy Connection" was how I broke through and took care of myself. There's a line "your world of blue lipstick and synringes," which was my "1, 2, 3, go" for completing my shot.

For anyone else who has experienced fluidity in their gender identity or expression, or just experiences ongoing shifts in their personality and sense of self in different ways, the song "Wobbly" captures the beauty and delight in such an experience. A celebration of feeling "wobbly" that makes me dance every time I listen to it.

  5. I made a thing.

It's been on the "to make" list for a while. And it has been "nearly done" for a while, too.

I'm quite fond of tin-can pinhole cameras for capturing the sun's path over several months. But I'm also impatient. So I wrote some wobbly code to make some synthetic solarigraphs...

  6. Ghosts on the Millennium Bridge

The Millennium Bridge has always been a bit of a drama queen – first it wobbled so much they had to shut it down, and now it’s serving up some of the most atmospheric shots in London.

This long exposure captures something almost supernatural about the daily pilgrimage across the Thames, with ghostly figures drifting like spirits between the sleek modernity of Norman Foster’s steel and glass creation and the timeless majesty of Wren’s baroque masterpiece. The blurred pedestrians become streams of human consciousness, each person’s journey reduced to ethereal wisps against the solid certainty of St. Paul’s dome.

The Millennium Bridge earned the nickname “Wobbly Bridge” because it swayed so dramatically when it first opened in 2000 that it had to be closed after just three days. The problem was “synchronous lateral excitation” – when large crowds walked in step, their footfalls created a resonance that made the bridge sway side to side by up to 7 centimetres, causing people to walk in sync to compensate, which only made the wobbling worse.

  7. Righty, one storm*-delayed #allotment vlog! youtu.be/EEcSXiSMN44

This is our first year attempting overwintered greens in the #polytunnel and as with most things it was a bit of a late start for these. Shall be interesting to see what, if anything, works out from the 6 leaf crop varieties we're trying out in here. Left to right:

    Pak Choi (Colour Crunch Mix)
    Spinach (Mediana)
    Mustard Greens (Giant Winter)
Nine Headed Bird (another mustard green)
    Lambs' Lettuce
    Chard (Bright Lights)

Alongside the garlic we popped in these beds as per last week's vlog, and the earlier sowings of carrots, coriander, dill, rashishes, celery seedlings, and a bonus volunteer wild rocket.

Bar far the most winter action the polytunnel has ever seen!

We also re-secure a wobbly Ume tree, and drop off gathered leaves for making Darlek leaf-mould.

    * Storm Brian, and also storm-Yvan-mistyping-a-rm-and-deleting an hour's work!

  8. At NorCal Middle School #VEXIQ Regionals.

Jesus fucking christ. Yesterday at the elementary regionals, the refs started calling intake twisting at the top of bot, which has never been a thing all season. Now suddenly, bots are getting penalties left and right.

Yesterday there were 12 or 17 DQs, and in the first match of the day, our bot got two warnings for twisting at the very top, not even the bottom.

Is World’s going to be like this? It’s the same refs we had in Saratoga. They were super strict about height (eg 24.00001 > 24, therefore fail). Fine, fair. But man, this isn’t even effecting the performance. It’s just that all the bots get wobbly at the top.

    It’s fucking weird.

At least the judges are consistent. They are not biased.

Adjust your play. That’s all you can do.

  9. Wobbling Plasma Could Help Planets Grow

To form planets, the dust and gas around a star has to start clumping up. While there are many theories as to how this could happen, it’s a difficult process to observe. A recent study shows that a magnetorotational (MR) instability could do the job.

The team used a Taylor-Couette set-up (where an inner cylinder rotates inside an outer cylinder) filled with a liquid metal alloy. With the cylinders moving relative to one another at over 2,000 rotations per minute, the team measured how the magnetic field changed in the churning fluid. Parts of the liquid metal formed free shear layers, and within these, the MR instability occurred, causing some regions to slow down and others to speed up.

The experiments suggest that triggering a MR instability is easier to achieve than once thought, which supports the possibility that it occurs in protoplanetary disks, helping to drive dust together into planets. (Image credit: ALMA/ESO/NAOJ/NRAO; research credit: Y. Wang et al.; via Eos)

  12. Polaris isn't the permanent North Star. Earth's axis wobbles on a 26,000-year cycle — a slow precession. In 3000 BCE, when the pyramids were going up, the north star was Thuban in Draco. In 13,000 years it'll be Vega. Polaris is just where we happen to be in the rotation right now. #astronomy #history #science

  20. @katzenberger @EUCommission And Europeans have put the EPP in charge of the EU for a quarter of a century (with a slight wobble in 2019). Large enough majorities have rewarded conservatives for their disastrous handling of the financial crisis and an entire generation condemned to stagnation via austerity and dependencies on cheap Russian gas and US defence by voting for even more conservatives and giving the EPP even more power in 2024. #youvotedforit

Seat height, and front tire inflation. I often go no-hands for varying durations, the no-hands handling is very sensitive to tire inflation. One of the bikes gets a real wobble sometimes because of that.
