A Bridge to Wandesford Quay

Cork’s newest bridge is a new pedestrian or cycle bridge that spans the River Lee from Wandesford Quay to Lambley’s Lane. You’d be forgiven if you’re not familiar with either area, as they aren’t exactly the most trafficked areas in the city.

The Millennium Bridge has always been a bit of a drama queen – first it wobbled so much they had to shut it down, and now it’s serving up some of the most atmospheric shots in London.

So this morning, I went on my daily walk and I came to two trucks that were in front of a wooden bridge for pedestrians. They were going to work on the bridge. I asked if I could cross. They said they would let me. Then I asked if I could come back, but I got a negative answer on that. So I decided to just turn around and walk somewhere else.

However, on my way back I ran into a bunch of folks. Every time I ran into someone, I told them that the bridge was closing. I think they tried getting there before it was fully closed, but I saw them walking back, so I think they were too late.

I puzzled about why it is that they did not put a sign close to the street saying that the bridge was going to be closed. This bridge is the ONE path to get to a subway station. It is regularly used. I'm sure folks wasted time walking to the bridge (which is not visible from the street, since it is in a forest).

I guess the idea is that pedestrians don't matter, right?

On the way back, I ran into a lady who told me she did not speak English. She only spoke Spanish. So I subjected her to my excruciatingly bad spoken Spanish. Oh, sometimes I can read entire posts in the fediverse that are written in Spanish, but don't ask me to speak it. I managed to tell her that the bridge was closed, and that I wanted to eat her children.

Okay, the last bit about the children is a joke.
