Phew! One hour time, a tankfull and a massive downpour later, managed to clear a section of the orchard...
The place was abandoned half a dozen years ago so the apple trees dropped apples in profusion and there's a lot of young trees...
Giant hogweed growing too, massive brambles heaps....

A blackbird got in the greenhouse!! How on earth... anyway, opened the door wide while it scrambled and banged on windows, then went around so as to 'push' him towards the open door... made it! Free!
The community allotment, abandoned months ago, has been taken by the Comitee and is being sorted. Will volunteer to strim the orchard.
And was given a bike trailer! Smaller than the one I have but just as useful. Needs some attention.

Picked up some black bamboo and some yellow bamboo which, once dry, snaps easily. Next will be red bamboo. The lot to go on the edge of the pond.

It looks increasingly probable that we will be able to plant out the tomatoes, peppers, etc. On or about May 13th. It depends if we want to get them in before or after the predicted rainfall on 13th - 14th. BeetBear is getting desperate to make room in the greenhouse to start the cucurbits and the first planting of sweetcorn! Watching the weather closely!

Made it to the allotment today to put the first plants in the ground. The sun was warm, the birds were chirping happily away, and the time passed peacefully. I even got to harvest some sage and the first 500g of rhubarb for tomorrow's dinner.

Good afternoon from our Community Allotment!
A lovely day at our Community Allotment, Eileen weeded, Jonathan planted lots of hawthorn bushes and after helping Jonathan, Ian tried to work out how to put a greenhouse up and found we need instructions!
It’s the busiest time of the year, so there's plenty more to do, do join our community also for more fixing, weeding and hopefully planting next Wednesday from 10am.

Eileen weeded, Jonathan planted fruit trees and Ashok and Ian built another raised bed and filled it with compost, then we went for a curry!

A glorious day at our Community Allotment, joined by Eileen, Ian & Jonathan at this Wednesday's Working Party.
Eileen weeded, Jonathan cut the grass & built a fence, & Ian built a raised bed, filled it with compost & planted veg in it.

I've solved an inconsequential allotment mystery.
There's a plot holders near me who is frequently doing video recording.
Being the dollop I am I've been too awkward to ask her about it.I previously searched for her but only this evening have I found her vlog - she's on YouTube & Instagram at DogOnThePlot
I can't speak for how good her videos are, but she's a really nice person.

Foggy midwinter in Sheffield. I planted an apple tree. To prepare for the light returning, I reduced the height of a hedge to the south of my land. Barrowed in lots of eucalyptus woodchip, thanks to whoever dropped that, mulch is always appreciated. Two more apple trees to plant. #sheffield #allotment #midwinter

Two things I am very good at:
1) growing nettles
2) getting stung by nettles.Got stung five hours ago on the pad of my thumb on one hand and the back of my two smallest fingers on the other and they are still incredibly painful. Always surprises me how potent nettles are.
On the plus side, they are great for wildlife, make excellent compost and plant food, and really delicious soup. #allotment #nettles #ow

After the evening meal, as the sun was going down, I ventured out to finally plant out the Okra at the end of the row where the pole beans are growing. That was the last of the planting out for the season. Pole beans and rhubarb are showing signs of not being happy with the extreme heat over the last few days. Heat is supposed to break tonight, I hope. Right now at 9:30PM it's still 85°F / about 30°C.
