Composition / making is twinned with decomposition / unmaking, and blocking out the decomposition side paralyses us. The Epstein class are the pathological expression of this denial, and we can only fight them by recognising the healing and growth-giving power of loss and and loss-integrating renewal.
I love how you link these strands to Hannah Arendt's analyses. (She is the most under-rated political/social thinker of the mid 20th century.)

The banality of evil
Some philosophers have claimed that there is no distinctive psychological feature that lies behind evil actions. Instead, they claim that evil actions can come from all kinds of motives. This fits with #HannahArendt’s analysis of the trial of Adolf Eichmann and her claims about the banality of evil.

No paradox of contemporary politics is filled with a more poignant irony than the discrepancy between the efforts of well-meaning idealists who stubbornly insist on regarding as “inalienable” those human rights, which are enjoyed only by citizens of the most prosperous and civilized countries, and the situation of the rightless themselves. Their situation has deteriorated just as stubbornly, until the internment camp—prior to the second World War the exception rather than the rule for the stateless—has become the routine solution for the problem of domicile of the “displaced persons.”

Hoffentlich nicht nur die Communities der Konzerne, die nun immer mehr mit Logarithmen und Datensammeln sowie den amerikanischer Arten der Zensur die Kommunikation bestimmen, sondern auf offenen Systemen wie WordPress und Mastodon, die frei und kostenlos „open Source“ von Gemeinschaften wie Linux und Ubuntu gestaltet werden:
Das Erstellen einer eigenen Kommunikation ist nicht so leicht wie das „Folgen“ in den Datenbanken der Konzerne, die dein Adressbuch nutzen, dir die nächsten möglichen Bekannten vorzuschlagen und dich mit angepasster Werbung zu beballern. Leider haben das auch die Zeitungen mit ihren Webseiten übernommen …

@MolemanPeter on my journey to understanding my condition I read a bit on the topic. There is quite some research on the "neurology of meditation" that shoes surprising plasticity. Anecdotal accounts of top-down control of bottom-up process through meditation is no longer speculation or a result of weltanschauung. I wonder if #contemplation in #Socratic @philosophy, as mentioned by #HannahArendt in ch.1 of the Human Condition is the same thing.
