  1. Honeydew Gall Wasps (Disholcaspis eldoradensis) form stem galls on several oak species. While the larvae feed, the galls exude a sweet sap that attracts ants and yellow jackets—providing an important late-summer honeydew source when other foods are scarce.

  2. Has anyone else noticed an abundance of honeydew this year? When I rode into work through Nether Edge, this morning, I thought I had a puncture, but it was just the amount of honeydew on the road making my tyres stick and sound flat! I thought what is the point of honeydew from the tree's perspective? It is wasteful of photosynthesis products and can't do them any good. Then I read up, it's secreted by insects that are essentially messy eaters...... #honeydew #sheffield #netheredge

  9. Picked a green flesh honeydew melon to test. The tendril was dried out but that's not saying much since most of the vines for these melons are not looking very good. The flesh was firm and green, the seeds looked full and mature, the taste was cucumber like.

I made refrigerator pickled melon. 1:1 apple cider vinegar and sugar just cold mixed. They taste pretty good but just about anything in this pickle juice would. 😁
