The Hefeweizen after 10 days in the bottle. It actually tastes like cloves and bananas. The one clear bottle I have is bubbling slightly so it's still carbonating some but this tastes good.
Pilsen light DME used was 755 grams and Bavarian Wheat DME was 3017 grams for more than 8.5 gallons or 32 liters. 1oz / 28g Fuggle and 0.6oz / 17g Czech Saaz hops. SafAle WB-06 yeast.

Bottled the Bavarian Hefeweizen / Weißbier yesterday. 89 12oz / 255ml and two 16 oz / 475ml bottles filled. I put my filling hose on the Speidel spigot and it worked good. I used a flashlight to see that the trub was below outlet. 3 grams of sugar per brown bottle and 4 in the two pints. I measured it dry this time which was a lot easier than a syringe and syrup.

Saw a bumblebee on the ground by the beehives and picked it up to put it in the sun. It flew away not long after getting a little sunshine. I figured it was a male bee so I wasn't worried about getting stung but I think it might actually be a Bombus Vagans queen. The half-black bumblebee.

I expanded on the pickle jar lid and made something to hold it in the right spot and orientation on the inner cover of the bee hive. I also made a plug with the 8 mesh when not feeding. The plan is to remove the permanent screen because I think the tiny space between it and the feeder is causing them issues. Yes this is a bit ridiculous.

No point in taking the shaft out of the motor to work on it. The little flat surface that a spacer sits on wasn't true so it causes the grinding wheel to wobble. I cut it then ground it and it seemed better. Need to tune up the spacers again but it's better than it was. This is off of a circular saw blade sharpener and spins diamond resin wheels for cutting carbide.

Picked some Red Marconi sweet peppers today, September 16, 2024. 10 of them went into the dehydrator after they were split and de-seeded. Going to see if they'll re-hydrate well enough for stuffed peppers. If not it's normal use of the dried peppers so nothing lost except they'll be broken bits instead of slices.

Making a thing.
When you need a strainer of a particular size, find something created in OpenSCAD and change the dimensions. v2 was sized and spaced ok but it was too thin. v3 fixed the thinness and added some rings for support around the diameter. The rings were added in the slicer.
A bee strainer for checking for varroa mites that fits in a peanut butter jar.

A bit of beekeeping today. It was about 2 days for the West hive to empty the 1.5 kg of honey in the feeder and to celebrate that 1 of them stung me.
The Center hive, pictured, is full! Upper deep is heavy, lots of bees, more comb in places it shouldn't be. I put a super on it so maybe I'll see some late flow to harvest.
The East hive had a few frames not built out in the upper deep so they shouldn't run out of room and I can feed.

August 14 harvest. I picked the big Sweet Tangerine tomatoes that were orange enough and in the hot sun. Two more melons, one which wasn't split open. 2 zucchini and a summer squash, only 10 cucumbers some of which are not that big, and some Flamme and Chadwick cherry tomatoes. Tomato taste is improving daily on everything, quantity in the house is also increasing daily, need to roast and make some sauce.

Dill pickles today. Spiced them up a little extra in anticipation of needing to add more liquid since it is a packaged dill pickle mix which I'm not following the instructions since I like to ice them and not pour boiling hot liquid in icy cold jars. Hot pack!
15 pounds / 6.8 kilograms of sliced cucumbers made into 10+ quarts/liters.
A quart of pickles needs to be consumed every week, or make none next year.

August 10 harvest and gardening things. Some yellow summer squash, zucchinis, cucumbers, 1 flamme tomato, and 4 bell peppers to have stuffed peppers for dinner.
The saved campari tomato seeds are growing great. Might have a watermelon to pick in a couple of weeks or less, and the little musk melons are waiting for me to forget about them for a day or two and instantly get ripe.

The rhubarb I relocated to the new location is still growing into August. In the old location it would wither away by July so maybe it was just too shaded. I haven't even been watering this area that good, only when I notice the sunflowers looking a bit wilted.
Maybe I'll get to complain about too much rhubarb next year.

Dill pickles.
13 lbs, 5.9 kg, cucumbers sliced up and divided between two tubs, contents of dill pickle mix divided and sprinkled on them and mixed, an amount of ice equal in weight to 7 cups of water divided and put on top, and tubs stacked and an empty tub on top with weight.
Jam made. 😜
Tubs dumped in 12 quart pot, vinegar added, heated till boiling. Hot jars packed and processed.
