So, these work,
apt-get install oneko xpenguins xsnow
xpenguins and xsnow have some bugs in relation to DEs heavily leaning on compositor. e.g. KDE/Plasma, penguins don't land on the window correctly.
but, in my continuing adventures to find desktop effects/pets, i found something called Shimeji, as in
flatpak install com.pixelomer.ShijimaQt
which lets you add a BUNCH more!

Right now it's me changing my #wallpapers to something #summery since the #SeasonalDepression is leaving my body since it's springtime where I am (or at least it feels like it)

CW: Linux desktop nerdery
Realized that, if I'm no longer using a tiling WM, I can run #xsnow again. Pictured: #windowmaker with a stock #Debian theme.
It's fun. The 3½-year-old thinks it's great. I think it's relaxing to see the snowflakes accumulate and gust about in the wind. And I don't need to worry about burning too much RAM or CPU on it, because this isn't a Pentium 2 (unlike the last system I ran it on).
