I recently set up a 17 yo EEEPC T91MT with Debian.

works fine, but I noticed how *slow* the web is, and of course, on such hardware, compositing is painful, so #Windowmaker it was. (#KDE apps are snappy)

But seriously, people: #krita, a digital painting app lags a bit, but browsing is *annoying*!

WTF have we done!

I've been using #windowmaker on/off for like 20 years and i still find new things about it

Well, it works. But not for me.

What i had in mind when i thought i could get used to a hidpi display while using #windowmaker #dockapps and a bitmap font?
It turned out to be easier to get back to a lower resolution display than to unrice my desktop and get used to a new one.

So i reinstalled the original 1600x900 display; and am selling the new one.

If anyone wants to buy a 2560x1440 matte display with the eDP to LVDS converter for #thinkpad #T430 (also works on T420, T430s and T420s), i am selling this one WITH* the adapted top lid cover (i had to sand down some nubs for the display to fit), so you do not need to diassemble it all and adapt; AND with the webcam and LED boards (because they are screwed into the lid).

I'm selling the lid with all stickers i had in it: only one. A single faux-leather dog-nose-like vinyl adhesive covering it entirelly (for a bonus business laptop look).

*if you do not have a T430 or do not want the lid or do not want to pay more for the lid and webcam/led boards, i can sell only the display and the converter.

Preferably to brazil or mercusur for easy (for me) shipping.

@cwebber After cringing hard, seeing early #Unix Window Managers like twm and fvwm, it was such a breath of fresh air to see #WindowMaker. I rocked a WindowMaker desktop from about 1998 to about 2002, in #Debian #linux

Next up:

* update my websites. have lots of content that is waiting.

* maybe #VibeCode a #Fluxbox replacement? I love Fluxbox, have been on it for years, but like the #WindowMaker #Dockapps, it is pretty much finished, and I worry it will eventually be unmaintained. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any similar stacking window managers. Of course, vibecoding an x11 window manager --- what could possibly go wrong? (Everything. Everything could go wrong.) So, we'll see how that goes.

I had completely forgotten about the Window Maker Live Linux distribution, currently based on Debian 13.3. Back in the day, Window Maker was, by far, my favorite. I think I'll download this latest release and give it a try. Honestly, technology just isn't as fun as it used to be. Maybe running this distro again will light a spark for me.

continuing to work on #WindowMaker style #DockApps for #Fluxbox. Currently have:
* fluxCalClock
* fluxMatrix
* fluxMoon
* fluxData (for moon and weather data)
* fluxKeyboardLayout
* fluxPowerControl
* fluxMail
and
* fluxPlayer

fluxPlayer is not working well yet, but I don't have a lot of experience with controlling media players remotely. (usually just use #MPV). Working on fluxNetwork now; fluxWeather will be after that.

#Anthropic #ClaudeCode just helped me make fluxMoon --- my third #WindowMaker #DockApp for #Fluxbox (on #Linux, #Gentoo, in my case). Took about 10 minutes, but only because I was reading email also.

I love the old dock apps. been using them since the late 1990s. Have 7 now, used to be ~12.

My new ones are homage but for modern systems --- 64, 96, and 128px options, l/c/r mouse button options, config file support, and written in #Rust. So, I hope at least not horribly insecure?

I don't want to start a flame war or anything, but I spent half of today #VibeCoding a solar system exploration #game and a #python program to create montages of the images in a folder. Also started on a modern #WindowMaker Dock App for #Fluxbox.

Imagine what I (barely amateur level programmer) will be able to (ask an LLM to) do in a couple of years? Will it destroy Open Source? Will it end proprietary software? How will the powers that be capture it and monetize it?
