Did you ever wanted to ignore the laws of physics? ⚖️ Well, you still can't. But you can compile your #GodotEngine templates without them now!
-
I'm once again working with #LoneWolfTechnology and #W4Games, this time to bring improvements to cutting out unnecessary fat from binaries in the #GodotEngine! 🪶
Here's one of them, the ability to compile the engine without RenderingDevice. Which will be useful for games that only use the compatibility renderer:
-
Wouldn't it be lovely to be able to scale bezier curves in the animation editor by just moving the mouse? Well...
-
Today I bring you sub-resource filtering! 🔍
-
An improvement for the runtime selection: *multi* selection!
-
Here's a Halloween treat for you all: now when editing files like images and sounds, they will also update at runtime! Boo! 👻
-
I think it's time we *scale* things up! Ha ha, get it? Because it's a PR related to scaling and, and... I will shut up now.

The foundation to a much requested feature for the #GodotEngine:
https://github.com/godotengine/godot/pull/97257
I would like to thank both #LoneWolfTechnology and #W4Games for sponsoring me to do this task (and many others that will come, stay tuned! 😉).

Great Godot news - W4 Games and Second Dinner studio announced a strategic partnership. Some thoughts and info here on my (free) patreon:

Hey, Juan!
What's your outlook on the Godot 3D physics core issue? The team has recognized this is critical.
https://github.com/godotengine/godot-proposals/discussions/9646
According to @clayjohn professional physics programmers quoted $200k or more to fix this.

W4Games (the organization supporting the Godot Engine) Get 15M USD in Funding: https://w4games.com/2023/12/07/w4-games-raises-15m-to-drive-video-game-development-inflection-with-godot-engine/

@jennzycos depends...
I know #W4Games are working on #ConsoleSupport for @godotengine and I'm shure thy already have something. Whereas @defold seems to offer #Unity-alike sleek integration already.Tho I may be incorrect...
Needless to say both work quite well and have their advantages and strongpoints.
And for some using #UnrealEngine may even be the better option...
It certainly depends on the game, genre, studio/devs & budget.
-
@Fenreliania How good or bad this works depends on how much a Platform Owner wants #IndieDevelopers on their #Platform:
None of the 3 big Platform holders are obligated to support #W4Games.
And #Valve never even attempted to turn the #SteamDeck into a #WalledGarden to begin with...
But with the #SoftwareDrought on #XboxSeries, #PS5 and a bit on #NintendoSwitch the chances are good however for them to get something worked out.
-
@Fenreliania So I'd rather expect #W4Games to make that #SDK integration happening with a sort-of toolchain similar to #Unity: Thus they as a #Company can comply with all the #NDAs and #Gatekeeping the Platform Owners demand - just like Unity today.
Console manufacturers usually just provide #commercial #Engine #developers and #middleware providers with #devkits to make their stuff work, they rarely invest into that themselves outside 1st party / inhouse exclusives.

@Fenreliania yeah.
It's mostly a #license #compatibility issue to some extend, but since it's MIT-licensed that is somewhat mitigateable and #W4Games was founded specifically to provide this as a commercial option whilst funding the core engine development and backporting stuff that isn't covered by #NDA's like #DirectX12...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt-ZYAoapvU
So I do hope that they'll be able to fill that gap like #Unity did where the platform holders just provide a "license key" to unlock their #SDK.
-
@Fenreliania the only.disadvantage I see is that #W4Games has yet to be able to provide a similarly-easy pipeline to offer #Console #Support.
#Defold supposedly does however...
But @GameFromScratch and others are way more versed in that and whilst easy console support is nice, most #IndieDevs that want to put something on #Steam, #ItchIO or the #AppStore and #GooglePlay may never need it...

The sheer fact that #Godot Community Forums got closed off because of some disagreements and confusion of the successor around #W4Games/#GodotFoundation and promises of the massive #FOSS project... I'd argue it is *not* as disappointing as the feeling of being betrayed for not giving away red flags before this whole debuckle even started to pan out.
If you make a #forum in a sense of place where different points of view are brought up, you should know better than to make a controversial post, lock it and pin it. Same difference with legit issues that were locked without any sensible resolution in issue tracker for yet another #OpenSource project.

Oh wow, #GodotEngine is on the brink of extinction! Help Juan not to lose his $8.5 million from #W4Games! 🤣

@Longplay_Games Making money from selling shirts is surprisingly hard! Things might change with #W4Games, but afaik the #Godot Foundation simply can't do that (since it's no business entity).
That being said, there's a shirt by @rafalagoon you may be interested in!

I think they even donate a portion of their profit to Godot. (Although that profit is WAY lower than you'd think) But well, at least you can show off your favorite engine in public - that's priceless! 😉

@gamingonlinux I hope #W4games can offer a competing package to #Unity in terms.of #ConsoleSupport...
-
@gmate8 @1disk TBH I think that #Godot is pretty awesome and #W4Games as corporate sponsor is working out the main and only drawback: lack of #console support due to conflicting licenses [#FLOSS vs. #NDA'd #CCSS as part of #SDK's needed to get it to run on all still-supported consoles.
Basically what #Unity and #Unreal have as key advantage:
