Ich brauche mal einen Tipp für ein Kabel USB-C auf USB-A, welches bei Verbindung vom iPhone zum PC den Datenzugriff ermöglicht (aka Internal Storage für Fotos bzw. Zugriff via iTunes). Habe hier ein Kabel, welches dem iPhone offenbar nur Strom liefert, aber keinen Datenzugriff erlaubt.

(Mit dem beiliegenden Kabel USB-C nach USB-C funktioniert der Zugriff mit einem neueren Notebook.)

So, I have two devices, one a Bluetooth speaker and one the 12-bar VU Meter LED setup I tooted about earlier, that want 5V power input via USB-C.

(I had been sharing a single USB-A charger block w/ A-to-C cable between them, swapping.)

So, I ordered two Anker Nano Charger / 511 devices and two USB C-to-C cables to go along with.

I plug them in and ... neither device powers up with that power input. The BT speaker makes a little clicking sound every few seconds - nothing from the LED VU meter.

Specs on the charger state: "Specs Input: 100-240V~0.6A 50-60Hz Output: 5V == 3A / 9V == 2.22A"

This is the second time I've seen a USB-C charger block not power such power-only devices.

What's up here? Do I need to keep with USB-A chargers and cable it to USB-C?

FWIW, the VU Meter device states not to allow more than 5V to the device -- but that should be the default, as I understand it, 5V from USB-C.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Great question! "Need" probably isn't the right word. "Strongly desire" or "greatly prefer" would more accurate.

The reason is that I have lots of different devices with different port types. Some of my newer devices only have USB-C ports, while my older devices only have USB-A ports, and I'd really like to have just "one key to rule them all," so to speak.

I know that I could buy a little USB-A/C adapter dongle and keep that on the same keychain with the MFA key, but that introduces a degree of fragility that I'd prefer to avoid if possible.

That being said, if I found a hardware MFA key with all of the features I listed except for USB-C, then I'd happily accept the dongle compromise, because most of my devices (even the old ones) support Bluetooth, so I'd still have that as a backup option in case the dongle fails.

My current hardware MFA key is no longer receiving security patches, so I'm in the market for a new one.

Here's a list of features I'd like my new hardware MFA key to have, in order of priority:
1. USB-A
2. NFC
3. USB-C
4. Biometric
5. Bluetooth

My current MFA key has features 1-3 and 5. Is there a Holy Grail MFA key somewhere out there with all 5 features?

I'm already pretty familiar with YubiCo's product lineup, and while I love their security rating and build quality, none of them have more than 2 of the features listed above, so that kinda bums me out.

Anyway, let's hear your hardware MFA key recommendations!

This would have been outrageous before 2020, but today is fine.

Most (newer) devices are using USB-C, and there are cheap A-to-C adapters anywhere.

Are USB-C-to-USB-A cables directional?

I have a HDMI/USB-Switch that is supposedly capable of handling USB3 speeds. It has a USB-A-plug (blue) to connect to the PC.

Unluckily I don't get any better speeds than USB2 with an USB-A-to-USB-A-cable from my Mac Mini (M2) to that switch.

So i tried to use an USB-C-to-USB-A cable. Strangely it does not work, there is literaly no connection ton the switch. I tested it with a handful of different cables (high speed and low speed) and in no case there was any connection between Mac Mini and switch at USB level.

The USB-C-interface is working, the cables are working too. But in every case I tested the cable it was USB-A on the PC side and USB-C on the device connected side.

So may there be a directional component involved?

Boosts are welcome as I am totally baffled.
