#TIL about this 2003 #documentary "The Corporation", and seems like things have gotten worse since it was first released.

One of my biggest regrets from the past few years was losing the habit of reading books. All the usual excuses: child to look after, too tired, not enough time…
I didn’t read a ton, but I had an average of 30 books a year. Last year I must have read 6. This year in early April I was at 0… and the realization shook me to my core.
Something had to be done.
I found out about KOreader and SimpleUI - having on an e-reader homepage a bar with reading stats would be an incredible motivator… I thought.
Jailbroke my #Kindle, installed #KOreader and #SimpleUI. And 18 days later I have… an 18 day reading streak and I’m averaging 43 minutes of reading time per day. I’m just so happy! 😊
(Unrelated but #Technofeudalism is REALLY GOOD - off to go resume reading it for another 20 minutes or so).

Louisiana has advanced one of the cruelest anti-homeless bills in the country. It would force homeless people to choose between jail and involuntary treatment, make them pay for it, and if they can't pay, force them to perform unpaid labor.
So...slavery. One step closer to #TechnoFeudalism
Which in case you've forgotten, is entirely constitutional as long as you've "commited a crime".

Wolt couriers are striking here in Denmark. It is significant, because workers are using the algorithmic control against itself - by continually rejecting orders, they drive up the price. Fediverse, I know we have a lot of skilled tech people here. Can we explore together more options on how people might use a system like that against itself?

In #technofeudalism and #antihumanism:
The narrative of #AI's “inevitability” is a tactic used by tech companies to discourage resistance and encourage compliance.
[…] When tech boosters want to demonise resistance, they invoke the luddites. By their telling, the luddites were primitive idiots, who smashed machines they were too stupid to understand. History though, tells a different story. As recounted by Brian Merchant’s sublime work Blood in the Machine, luddites were skilled artisans, fighting for their way of life against the “satanic mills” – textile sweatshops powered by child semi-slaves. Forbidden from unionising, luddites smashed machines as a protest tactic. And they did not lose to the inevitable march of progress. They lost to physical force. The government called in troops, and the luddites were either executed or shipped to penal colonies in Australia.

1- When I was younger) I thought that the lessons of #WWII would forever inoculate us against overt fascism.
2- When I was younger) I though that humanity, in general, had evolved past the point were SF scenarios of #DystopianTech , making existential decisions for us, could ever really happen.
Only took ~15 yrs of #DarkTriad #AlgorithmSocialMedia , elevating all batsh!t ideas to mainstream, to trigger both.

Monica Vargas de @GRAIN in conversation with journalist Gina Rigols about #TechnoFeudalism vs #FoodSovereignty
-> #bigtech and #bigagroo corporations intimately working together to "help" transforming farmers being more productive based on pesticides, tech platforms, privatisation of natural knowledge
-> they increasingly know and control what we eat
-> otoh, we are what we eat
-> 70% of global population is active in farming
-> what kinds of resistance are farmers waging against this?
--> resistance against int'l trade agreements (that facilitate this bigtech bigagro privatisation of code and data)
--> collective seed banks where communities keep seeds, share knowledge
-> also fight tax paradises, that help keep this status quo

"In this sense, Varoufakis’s “technofeudalism” is not distinct from capitalism in any way. His analysis is too Marxist to pass mainstream muster (he could have sufficed with the concepts of monopoly and monopsony, plus institutional economics), and not Marxist enough to actually use Marxian concepts. He tries some intellectual polyphagia by bringing in Keynes, but he muddles that up with stuff about the theory of relativity that nobody understands. He tries levity by citing Marvel movies, Star Trek, and, most hysterically of all, Eurovision as the basis for the entire post technofeudal economy, but just comes off as silly. He also does a weird pivot against transgender sports - will popularism on the allowed chromosomes in Little League save the project to replace the market economy with Eurovision? Most infamously, he tries to argue that the ending of Mad Men shows the defeat of capitalism by the counterculture, when in fact it shows exactly the opposite: Don Draper utilizing New Age signifiers taken from yoga and mindfullness to sell Coca Cola, The Conquest of Cool style. But there is something to his idea, too. His central notion is that politics would be defined by a clash between a borderless kleptocratic elite of tech companies and national governments, who are increasingly subjugated to cloudalist profit seeking. Except China, where the cloudalists are dominated by the government which is also technofeudalism but a different kind, somehow.
Varoufakis’s book is, in short, Abundance for people who are too socialist to understand the ending of Mad Men."
