The United States president has become the world’s biggest bully, threatening any country that doesn’t do as he demands with tariffs, and US tech companies are taking full advantage by flexing their muscle and trying to avoid effective regulation around the world. The drawbacks of our dependence on US tech companies have become more obvious with every passing year, but now there can hardly be any denying that where we can pry ourselves away from them, we should make the effort to do so.

*We need more platforms such as Hylo, wikipedia and the fediverse.
*We need to maintain & develop solidarity, unity.
*Each of us needs to recognise our own value, strengths, courage and awareness.

#migrants are leaving a bad situation in hope of a better one.
As we post cat photos and talk about the ethics of #ai , there are people risking their lives to have better lives. And mostly we tell them “NO.”
Their situations are defined by power and the cliques that sequester it. Just like the creep of #capitalism , AI, #fascism , #technofeudalism near you, now.
It’s very likely that someone not too many generations back from you risked their life so you could live, too.

@randahl I’m glad Elon exists: he’s showing the world that to make inordinate amounts of money and become one of the most powerful oligarchs in the world, you don’t need even an ounce of intelligence, you just need to be a sociopath eager to exploit even the most vulnerable.
He also makes clear that this system is a failure if it rewards these kind of individuals, with no correction mechanism in place. He’s a techno-wanker cyber-douche POS. -

We also want to go back to that glorious past.

We want to go back to that time when greedy merchants and technocrats were not used to judge art, literature and dramas based on their lack of taste and knowledge, and when they were used to just shut up, because teachers, bards and druids didn’t ask to hear their merchant-like and technocrat-like, irrelevant opinion on art.

I was just thinking yesterday about how credit cards, Klarna, Pay Later, etc. weren't around for previous major crashes & depressions. Seems like they would obscure and obfuscate the moment of economic crash. Spread it around & not be as obvious as in the past. I'm sure that people are currently drowning in debt, instead of lining up for bread.
Reminds me about those debtors prisons and the 13th Amendment loophole.
#Fascism can be temporary, but they want #TechnoFeudalism forever.

I dislike the concept of technofeudalism.
It's used to describe what is nothing more than another stage of capitalism. We're living through the consequences of the falling rate of profit: capital becomes less profitable, it abandons production and innovation, turning instead towards digital platforms as a new source of rent extraction.
Musk or Bezos do not behave like feudal lords either, far from it. Caring about power more than money has been a trait of the bourgeoisie for centuries, it's how it came to exist (using their money to buy shares of the nobility's power).
The only return to the past I see these days is in international relations, where mercantilism seems to be back. Colonial wars are fought over resources, gunboat diplomacy is used as a negotiation tool, tariffs and blockades are disrupting free trade, still not feudalism though.
Marx wrote of all those things in Das Kapital over a century ago. This new word/concept is wrong in essence, it distracts from the overall critique of capitalism which needs to be accurate in order to topple it. We are not subjects of lordships, we are wage laborers, which is our weakness but also the source of our strength through collective bargaining power.
Same issue with the usage of "the Epstein class". It does point towards the existence of class warfare, but portrays the dominant class as "rich people who abuse others" instead of tying it to rent seeking and extraction of labor from the working class. We have a word for that, it's called the bourgeoisie.
Deep down it doesn't really matter since it at least gets people talking about topics they usually are afraid to discuss, I merely choose to not use them myself. But I do die a bit inside when they are used unironically by writers and journalists.
