Rhythmbox 3.5.1 is now available!
Rhythmbox, which is a music player, a tag editor, and a music organizer built for Linux and Unix-like systems, has recently been updated to version 3.5.1.
Rhythmbox 3.5.1 contains fixes to the ReplyGain plugin, which has been adjusted to work correctly with the new player backend. Starting from this version of Rhythmbox, you’ll no longer experience playback issues when using this plugin.
When building Rhythmbox from source code, you may encounter build failures due to compatibility problems, especially when using a newer GObject version with an older libpeas version. Starting from this version, you’ll no longer encounter build failures.
As for FLAC files that were obtained from Bandcamp, you can now play music with lyrics turned on without any friction. This is useful for karaoke sessions or for listening to music with lyrics displayed on screen.
You can learn more about this version of Rhythmbox here.

#Linux's Favorite Music Player #Rhythmbox 3.5 Lands After Nearly a Decade in the 3.4 Series

Rhythmbox 3.5 is now available!
Rhythmbox, which is a music player, a tag editor, and a music organizer built for Linux and Unix-like systems, has recently been updated to version 3.5, after nearly a decade in the release of version 3.4, which was out on August 14th, 2026.
Rhythmbox 3.5 now enables the newer playback backend as the default. This backend was introduced on Rhythmbox 3.4.9 as a replacement for the old cross-fading feature. This ensures that your listening experience becomes smoother than before.
When listening to music with lyrics, Rhythmbox can now search for lyrics for your songs via lrclib.net, which makes it easier for you to play music without having to search for lyrics file yourself. It can also read lyrics that are embedded within music files and extract them.
As for podcasts, the redesigned user interface allows you to get updates for the podcast feed and to download episodes more easily. When you view a specific podcast episode from the feed, you’ll be able to get clearer information without any hassle. Furthermore, a new plugin now allows you to manage your podcast subscription and episode synchronization between Rhythmbox and other podcast clients via the gPodder.net API.
You can learn more about this version of Rhythmbox here.

With the update to Debian 13, #rhythmbox did not show lyrics embedded in my ogg/vorbis files anymore. It turned out to be caused by a change in the underlying #gstreamer, and I wrote a patch for Rhythmbox to adjust: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/rhythmbox/-/merge_requests/205

CW: tech help maybe still needed
PPS: I just had to remove the cache folder.
PPPS: Okay, its's not fixed. Removing the cache is just a workaround. Every now and then Rhythmbox crashes. If I try to play the song it crashed on again, it'll crash again. If I clear the cache I can play it and wait a while for the next crash.I'm using #RhythmBox as my music library program on #ubuntu and a few days ago it started crashing whenever it tried to process certain music files it could play before.
So whenever those tracks come up in a playlist, or when I try to play them manually or when I try to edit them, the app crashes.
It's probably a lot of files that cause this, but I don't know which ones until I encounter them.I've had the same issue before on Ubuntu (I think with a different music library program) until the program was completely unusable and I stopped listening to music for many years. I don't want this to happen again.
Any tips?

@dff
In the past few years I've been using #rhythmbox, not because I like it but because it is what I found that "gets the work done".
I was a fan and user of #Amarok for many years, until its development stalled, and forks and alternatives like #clementine showed up but never quite managed to take over - and I haven't been satisfied with a music player ever since. I know that "Amarok is back" since last year, and I'm looking forward to try out the new/modern versions, but it is not available for the current version of #Ubuntu LTS which is what I am using in the machine I'd use it on, so I might just wait for Ubuntu 26.04 before trying it... -
-
@nomiddlename I've read that #Rhythmbox will play CDs without having to rip... but I havent used it for that myself.
