I was #rebooting my computer and found an error that popped up, part of which said:
Fedora PCIe Bus Error: severity=CorrectableAnytime you get a bus error could be a sign that your hardware may be damaged. But it also said
severity=Correctable
which indicates that it’s not irreversible. A bit of digging online I found that it can indicate that the kernel is reporting errors and Advanced Error Reporting and is not of real concern but it can clutter up log files. -

A letter from the margins of the #openweb
All the #OMN projects I’ve worked on over the years, from #OGB to #indymediaback, are not directly about social change. They are about creating the possibility of social change. A subtle, but critical difference. We don’t claim to have the answers. What we do offer are tools, networks, and processes that make it easier for people to imagine that the world can be different, and then help them to take the first step. Yet here's the mess that keeps being pushed over us. We are told this […]https://hamishcampbell.com/a-letter-from-the-margins-of-the-openweb/

#Human #brain... is a marvel of nature!
It's amazing how it keeps all bodily functions under control like a well-oiled machine, despite the sheer amount of #CognitiveDissonance some people have with the beliefs they hold! Try doing that with a software #update and you'll be #rebooting your office #PCs repeatedly over the weekend, hoping that it sticks somehow! If you pretend that human brains are like computers, then Thanos will be redundant.

I can finally say I’ve upgraded successfully to #Fedora40. It was not without hassle this time and it started with what seemed to be a system that did not even give me a prompt after #rebooting, although the update process had seemed to go smoothly and quickly. Luckily, the virtual screens were working and so I could #login to a #shell. Although #sddm didn’t seem to be working, #kdm was and so I was able to open a desktop session, but only in #Gnome

@BrodieOnLinux Granted, #Rebooting on #Linux #Servers happens way less than on #Windows "Server" and even on #Desktop.
It's not like on #Windows10 & #Windows11 where the OS forces when it wants to reboot and completely ruins the productivuty of it's users with #RebootOrgies, but rather politely says "Hey, I did update your system. Since it's a Kerbel Update, please consider rebooting me when you got the time..."
And thanks to #SystemD even huge #Desktop distros like #UbuntuLTS (re)boot faster than Windows on the same machine even when you shove it on a 7200rpm 3,5" SATA-2 HDD and Windows on a SATA-6G saturating SSD...
(Yes I'm old enough ro remember having enough time to take a dump on the loo when #SysVinit was a thing and boottimes were measured in minutes...)

We've seen this with most of our bunnies from time to time. We think they #crashed and are #rebooting.

My iPhone 14 Pro has been rebooting itself randomly for a few weeks now. Yesterday it rebooted repeatedly. And this morning it dropped into the restore screen.
After two support chats, and a 250 mile round trip drive to the nearest Apple Store I have a new iPhone 15 Pro and a 14 Pro sized paperweight.

In the last few years there have been events and gatherings in the US, Portugal, and Madrid, discussing the possibility of #rebooting #Indymedia. The current history of Indymedia has been primarily written by academics and is very Americanized, so there is a need to retell the stories and provide a wider perspective. To successfully reboot Indymedia, I think it needs to return to its open and serendipitous roots, rather than the bureaucratic and closed structure it became.

Talking about grassroots media as a step away from the current #techshit
Hamish Campbell on the #openweb and rebooting indymedia Hamish Campbell, a veteran of radical media for more than 30 years, argues that mainstream technology and culture are failing us. The rise of the #dotcon platforms has commodified our lives: closed silos like #Facebook and #Instagram harvest our attention and data, locking us into systems that serve profit, not people. Attempts to build alternatives around an #encryptionist agenda have gone nowhere. As a result, the tech giants […]https://hamishcampbell.com/talking-about-grassroots-media-as-a-step-away-from-the-current-techshit/

@bojkotiMalbona
Yes, its SysRq, which is often PrtScrn, not actually PrtScrn.Its just Alt+SysRq and you can keep those held while you do #REISUB.
Leave a space of about one second between REISUB key presses to give the system a chance to complete each operation before #reBooting.
The #REISUO key set is same but turns system off at the end.
It seems everyone has a different way of remembering.

From 3 years ago: Talking about #rebooting the #openweb been trying to work with/away from the #geekproblem of overcomplexity and #stupidindividualism build it from scratch/pointlessness. I have been trying to work building open projects agensts the flow of closed #incryptionists for 20 years. I can't express what a relief mastodon (activertypub) has been, it's a weight off my shoulders and a opportunity to put the pointless last 10 years of tech behind us and move on. Press the #reboot button.

The #OMN is not a revolutionary project. Its largely a #rebooting of the past and trying to get to a place we “could have been” if we had not collectively fucked up at the second #dotcon boom (in 2010ish?). The outcome are varied, big and small, but in the “big picture” we have a semantically rich big data soup covering the alt/grassroots and alt-frendly mainstream that takes part. From this new fresh "open commons” we build real linking revolutionary projects. Old post.

Limping back to work. #shooting #rebooting

Repeatedly #rebooting #Windows because of #updates sure is a lot less frustrating with an #SSD.
-
The explosive growth of the Internet before the #dotcon boom/bust/enclosure is an example of what we are #rebooting a commons.
Now what we do with that "commons" is up to us.

The mess is deeply embed in the current internet https://boingboing.net/2020/01/08/rip-open-web-platform.html only by #rebooting the use of the #openweb do we have any hope of moveing away from this mess. its simpale stuff and VERY sad and bad when people ignore these issues as they do.

Rebooting the openweb
Published Date 9/20/16 2:42 PM
The OMN is based on a simple understanding that the last 10 years have been wasted on #dotcons and #encryptionists delusions. In this time #NGO’s, activists and at-geeks have wasted the #openwebs potential to shift society to a more humane path.
To move beyond this decaying circle, we need to #reboot the basic infrastructure that has been allowed to decay. Early “#web02” was based on open features that crossed website boundary’s in a way unthinkable […]
