And that is where we find ourselves because we allowed the #appearance of #propriety, as this case demonstrates another example of, and it's just of course outrageous. It's not based on anything except for what they wanted to have presented to them. The case was worked outside of court. Justice? No.

A quotation from La Rochefoucauld
True eloquence consists in saying all that need be said and no more.

A quotation from Joseph Addison
There are many more shining qualities in the mind of man, but there is none so useful as discretion; it is this, indeed, which gives a value to all the rest, which sets them at work in their proper times and places, and turns them to the advantage of the person who is possessed of them. Without it, learning is pedantry, and wit impertinence; virtue itself looks like weakness; the best parts only qualify a man to be more sprightly in errors, and active to his own prejudice.
Joseph Addison (1672-1719) English essayist, poet, statesman
Essay (1711-11-17), The Spectator, No. 225More about this quote: wist.info/addison-joseph/81055…

SGANARELLE: Have you no fears about returning here? It was here, Sir, that you killed that Commander, six months ago.
DON JUAN: Why should I be afraid? Didn’t I kill him properly?

Okay, here is my #propriety #software complaint for today, featuring #apple
When you take a picture and their device generates a .heic image, in apple's infinite wisdom, they don't encode a single HEVC stream, they do several dozen microscopic puzzle pieces that need to be put together to get the whole image.
apple proraw isn't raw, it's already been demosaiced and processed which shits on your ability to fuck with it after the fact. You are just kind of stuck with what they gave you. Despite that, they don't provide proper metadata like color space information, the only redeeming quality is that you dont get gimped by 8bit puzzle pieces like with heic. It also seems they do some weird non-standard stuff so software support is really spotty outside of adobe and apple. god forbid you use apple's native camera app because i still don't know how to convert or decode proraw from, you need to use a third party camera app which will give you something that imagemagick can work with.
If you want proper raw images, you are limited to 12MP despite the advertised fancy pants 48MP sensors. Other than being resolution cucked, these are actually pretty decent, standard, and easy to work with.

What sort of form was Hook himself showing? Misguided man though he was, we may be glad, without sympathising with him, that in the end he was true to the traditions of his race. The other boys were flying around him now, flouting, scornful; and as he staggered about the deck striking up at them impotently, his mind was no longer with them; it was slouching in the playing fields of long ago, or being sent up for good, or watching the wall-game from a famous wall. And his shoes were right, and his waistcoat was right, and his tie was right, and his socks were right.
James Hook, thou not wholly unheroic figure, farewell.
For we have come to his last moment.
Seeing Peter slowly advancing upon him through the air with dagger poised, he sprang upon the bulwarks to cast himself into the sea. He did not know that the crocodile was waiting for him; for we purposely stopped the clock that this knowledge might be spared him: a little mark of respect from us at the end.
He had one last triumph, which I think we need not grudge him. As he stood on the bulwark looking over his shoulder at Peter gliding through the air, he invited him with a gesture to use his foot. It made Peter kick instead of stab.
At last Hook had got the boon for which he craved.
“Bad form,” he cried jeeringly, and went content to the crocodile.
Thus perished James Hook.J. M. Barrie (1860-1937) Scottish novelist and dramatist [James Matthew Barrie]

A quotation from Steven Moffat
JEFF: You’re not ready for the Giggle Loop. […] Basically, it’s like a feedback loop. You’re somewhere quiet. There’s people. It’s a — it’s a solemn occasion. A wedding. No — it’s a minute’s silence for someone who’s died. […] Minute’s silence ticking away. Tick. Tick. Tick. The Giggle Loop begins. Suddenly, out of nowhere, this thought comes into your head: the worst thing I could possibly do during a minute’s silence is laugh. (Overturns an empty beer glass) And as soon as you think that, you almost do laugh, automatic reaction. But you don’t, you control yourself. You’re fine. Whoo — but then you think how terrible it would have been if you’d laughed out loud in the middle of a minute’s silence. And so you nearly do it again, only this time it’s a bigger laugh. (Stacks a beer glass on top of the first one) And then you think how awful this bigger laugh would have been. And so you nearly laugh again, only this time it’s a very big laugh. (Stacks another glass) It’s an enormous laugh! Let this bastard out, and you get whiplash! (Stacks another glass) Suddenly, you’re in the middle of this completely silent room (Stacks another glass) and your shoulders are going like you’re drilling the road! And what do you think of this situation? Oh, dear Christ, you think it’s funny!
