#VendrediLecture avec La mort du temps, d’Aurélie Wellenstein.

Ce n’est pas mon roman préféré de l’autrice (je préfère ses univers fantasy), mais elle est douée pour poser des questions intéressantes sur ce qu’est être humain, sur ce qu’est ou non un monstre.
L’intrigue – une fuite gigantesque de Paris vers l’est de la France, pour éviter les répliques d’un tremblement de terre qui déchire le temps – n’est qu’un prétexte pour cela.

Après ma lecture de "Heureux comme jamais", j'ai enchaîné par cette bande dessinée qui a des thèmes communs : les ia, les conséquences néfastes des actions de l'humanité, la violence... J'ai été emportée par l'histoire de Carbone qui, grâce à sa créatrice, va pouvoir échapper à son obsolescence programmée en se transférant dans un autre robot.

La saison 3 de #Silo, adaptation des romans éponymes avec la géniale #RebeccaFerguson, a débarqué.

J'avais plutôt bien aimé la première saison. Je dois encore rattrapé la seconde saison avant d'enquiller celle-ci.

Un quatrième tome que j'attendais avec envie. J'adore cette série, Saya est un personnage que j'aime beaucoup. Les situations sont criantes d'humanité (alors qu'une partie des personnages ne l'est pas). Les dessins sont toujours superbes.
La fin m'a enormément frustrée. Il faut que je lise la suite ! Mais le tome 5 ne sort qu'en octobre... 🥲😭

J'ai été très surprise par le début du roman qui se passe à peu près au moment où est sorti le roman. On suit Arthur Leander, un acteur de cinéma en fin de carrière, qui joue le roi Lear dans un théâtre à Toronto. Puis, quelques pages plus loin, on est projetés des années plus tard alors qu'une grande partie de la population mondiale a été décimée par la "grippe de Géorgie".

A Sovereign City Center (in the near distant future) The war in Iran is driving up energy prices. Energy was already getting harder to move, harder to afford, harder to ignore. Fossil fuel rationing is already happening in parts of the world. It may not stabilize in the short term. Lets talk solutions, ya dig? For a hundred years, the deal was simple. You buy, we build. You consume, we design. You break it, you buy another one. The machine was never yours. The schematic was never yours. The knowledge was never yours. That deal is ending because the economics broke. When energy gets expensive, complexity becomes a liability. Global supply chains that stretch across twelve countries to assemble a tractor become fragile. Proprietary firmware that bricks a $40,000 combine because a sensor failed becomes absurd. Planned obsolescence stops being a business model and starts being a threat to survival. So here is what we build instead: A local server. Consumer GPU. Runs offline. Trained on every engineering manual, material datasheet, metallurgical spec, and mechanical schematic we can liberate. You describe a broken gear, it gives you the geometry. You describe a soil condition, it gives you the implement. No subscription. No connectivity required. No terms of service. Start with plastic. A $200 FDM printer can produce brackets, housings, jigs, irrigation fittings, tool handles, and replacement components that would otherwise require a parts order and a two-week wait. How wildly practical! Then go further. Metal sintering printers paired with a feedstock supply chain built around regional scrap. Not perfect parts. Good enough parts. Repairable parts. Parts whose blueprint lives on a drive you own, in a language the machine can explain to you. A village with that stack can fabricate a replacement drive shaft. Can iterate on an irrigation valve. Can train the next person without sending them anywhere. This is not primitivism. This is not anti-technology. This is the most aggressive possible adoption of technology, aimed directly at the question of who controls it. The tractor is not complicated. We made it complicated on purpose. A four-stroke engine, a gearbox, a hydraulic lift. Every one of those mechanisms is fully describable, fully printable in functional form, fully within reach of a community that has the tools and the knowledge stack to support them. We have the tools. The knowledge stack is the project. Will rising energy prices automatically deliver this future? No. History suggests they deliver consolidation first, authoritarianism second, and decentralization only when communities have built the infrastructure to receive it. So build the infrastructure now, before the crisis makes it urgent. Archive the schematics. Train the models. Set up the local servers. Get the printers running. Build the mesh. Because the window between “this is theoretically possible” and “this is desperately necessary” is exactly the window we are in. Use it.

Na spotkanie o "Lodzie" Dukaja dwa miesiące temu przyszła osoba z Mastodona, więc może warto wrzucić przypominajkę o kolejnym (za tydzień w środę 25 marca o 19:00)

Tym razem pogadamy o "Termushu" duńskiego autora Svena Holma. To takie postapo, w którym grupka bogaczy* przetrwała wojnę nuklearną w luksusowym hotelu-schronie. W klimacie "literatury wysokiej", co uwidacznia się m.in. w tym, że niewiele się dzieje.

Spotkanie jest "wrocławskie" z powodów historycznych, ale tak naprawdę rozmawiamy przez Discorda, więc można się połączyć skądkolwiek.

Předpokladem jakékoliv změny ve světě je schopnost představit si svět jinak. V současné době mě přijde jako zásadní umět si představit svět po éře AI bubliny.

Bude to naprosté #postapo? Nebo to bude to nějaká forma relativně příjemné dekadence, kdy budeme chodit rabovat nevyužívané grafické karty do ruin opuštěných datacenter, odstřižených od zdrojů energie a vody rozzuřeným obyvatelstvem, a používat je pro letní trénování svých menších modelů pomocí přebytků solární energie? #solarpunk

Svět se nepochybně znovu změní. V 19.století si málokdo uměl správně představit změnu, která nastane po konci parních lokomotiv a zaoceánských parníků... některé převažující vize - namátkou třeba vzducholodě - se ukázaly být slepou uličku. Jiné bublin ovládly na několik desetiletí svět, jako třeba všechny možné formy nosičů médií, aby postupně vyšuměla do ztracena a do muzeí. Gramofon vládl světu několik dekád, vzducholodě mu nevládly nikdy.

Začínáme si pomalu dokázat představit svět bez osobních aut - nebo alespoň s méně osobními auty. Roste počet lidí, kteří takový svět pokládají za žádoucí. V současnosti si ale většina z nás asi nedokáže představit svět bez nějakým způsobem prohledávatelného Internetu.

Dokážeme si představit svět po AI bublině? Potrvá tahle bublina tak dlouho, jako trvala třeba éra železnic, a nebo spíše krátce? A hlavně: co přijde po ní? Neměnný ideální svět bez rizik a konfliktů určitě ne. Pokud má něco šanci bubliny přežít, tak je to nějaká nová forma racionality, která bude poučená tím, že ne vše, co se jako rozumné či dokonce pravdivé jeví, takové doopravdy je. Éra po konci AI bude snad poučená tím, že ne každý symbol je vhodné kombinovat s každým.

Existuje naděje, spočívající v tom, že některé bubliny minulosti odezněly bez nějaké zásadní katastrofy, která by otřásla světem: prostě jen vyšuměly, odezněly.
