  1. Please Stop Making Me #OptOut of #AI

I’m sick of “opt-out” toggles for automatically enabled #generativeAI features. It’s past time to make “opt in” the default setting for sensitive features.

L'Opt-Out c'est niet !

  4. I kinda liked (and used!) #TagsPub when it was #OptIn tbh but the #notifications are annoying either way... what if I silence the instance?

  5. @one
I am not an expert unfortunately, but I believe there is ground to file a complaint to the national Data Protection Officer.

All the information in the pictures below is available here:
    commission.europa.eu/law/law-t

So the German, Italian, French, etc instances/ users can write to the Datenschutzbehörde, Autorità per la Protezione dei Dati, etc to report the breach.

One thing is clear: the user must give their explicit consent.

  6. Lemme use a metaphor.

Comic books are opt-in. I've lived more than 40 years on this planet (and less than 50 ... I'm very nearly smack dab in the middle of that).

Never once has a legitimate comic book subscribed me to it without me taking specific actions in order to receive it.

I will receive junk mail whether I want to or not. All I have to do is live in this gawdawful country with an address and I will, at minimum, receive junk mail addressed to "Resident." Junk mail is opt-out. At best. I don't think you can stop the ones marked "Resident."

Is your service opt-in? Is it really? Do people have to go take a positive action in order to engage it? If not, then it's not opt-in.

(This is a very clearly labeled metaphor. Not the time to tell me about Chick Tracts or whatever other edge case you've got. Although, if your "reply guy" reply is funny to me, the results are less likely to be salty.)

  7. Pourquoi toutes les saloperies sont *systématiquement* en opt-out.
Parce qu'en opt-in, la réponse serait...
    #optIn #outOut #consentement

  8. @joergi

"Just opt out" is also the refrain of the unsolicited commercial emailer, the "AI" content scraper, and the politicians who exempt themselves from unsolicited advertising rules.

It is my firm opinion that one should not *have* to opt out of this kind of activity, because it should be opt-in from the start.

  9. Another day, another local small business automatically "opting" me into their marketing mailing list using an email address provided only for specific purposes.

FFS. This time it was the veterinarian. This ain't allowed in Canada.

  10. @arteesetica

Thanks. Apparently there is a way to do this in #Vivaldi for "distributions" but not for end users. Maybe?

If it were there I think it would be easy. So I assume it's not. My solution is to just link to #noai and stop using the url/location bar for searches. 🙂

I hate #AI in searches, I have to recheck EVERYTHING that I don't already know about. That's almost like an anti-search engine. It gives you questions and you hunt for the answers. No thanks!

Again I would have no problem with it if it were opt-in, but alas there is so little perceived value there that they insist we must opt-out.

    Exponentially harder I would say.

For something like federated Community Notes an is probably needed, with a set of governing rules that must be followed to qualify.

  12. @thisven @kuketzblog @digitalcourage

"... dass #PersonenbezogeneDaten verarbeitet werden noch bevor man das #OptIn geben konnte..."

Das ist meines - alten - Wissens nach bei allen Apps so, die eine bestimmte, von Facebook bereitgestellte, Schnittstelle verwenden.

    Oder gilt das nicht mehr?

  13. #chatControl I hear the word "Voluntary" I think of #optin ( as in every user could say "fuck you" and keep their #privacy ) but you mean companies would have to choose if they want to scan or not scan? Oh come on. Those companies always wanted to scan. Now the #Epstein friends ( who run these companies ) will get new porn to watch, because they would get access to your #kids ''s private chats.
