Art Fight REVENGE for https://furaffinity.net/user/pastaboi for this Spek art which you can see HERE: https://artfight.net/attack/13114028.enlightened-spek!  So... I saw this HARD ROCK DRAGON character who was suggested to be drawn playing in a band, and I always wanted to draw my Yvette playing in a band too, so... I made it happen! Was pretty neat to do an attack with one of my own characters included. Goes hard, kinda?!

Completely winged it with the wild perspective stuff here. Like, where would I find a reference for this anyway? But I think it turned out pretty alright! ALSO! There are a few... I dunno, easter eggs? Clever details? ...hidden within the art here. Not by mistake! Everything is quite deliberate. Can you find them?

On The Road

While my wife and I were traveling north into Arkansas on Friday (10 May 2024), I spotted a hawk perched on a powerline along a road in the Ozark mountains. I pulled over and grabbed my camera. Later, one of my granddaughters asked what species it was — and looking at a tiny phone photo of a bird 50–100 yards away, I wasn’t sure. Now that I’m back home and can check it properly, it’s a red‑shouldered hawk (Buteo lineatus).

Update on Starship 13 launch abort.

SPaceX reports the failure to launch Starship 13 was due "a post-ignition anomaly" where 4 Raptor engines failed to ignite.

Further they report 2 engines will need to be replaced (not sure why just 2) before attempting liftoff again. This will take some time - my guess 2 weeks before they try again. #Space #SpaceX #StarShip #Launch #LaunchAbort #Raptor

I spotted this Mississippi kite (Ictinia mississippiensis) circling overhead, and I’m pretty sure it spotted me right back. They’re relatively small raptors, built for high, effortless soaring, and this one seemed unusually interested in my backyard. Mississippi kites don’t typically go after other birds, but with all the anoles skittering around the house, it may have been scouting for a quick snack.

T' Night is a Good Night :)
Well, here's my second artfight attack this year and I wanted to try out something more painterly again. Made sure to render the face more than the other things...but I think this piece would have benefited from more rendering, but I dunno. Also I didn't feel like rendering out millions of leaves and blades of grass, so maybe this was also not the right composition for my little painting practice. Already took me almost 4 hours to complete, so already one of the pieces I spent the most time on so far.

As always I have learned a lot :)

My first artfight attack yippie ^^

I went for a nice and thick line style to ease into some good ol' Krita drawing with resolutions bigger than 500 pixel (mind blowing) so this was I think a nice way of doing so.

Hidden Hawk

Here’s a red‑tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) I spotted one morning while Charlie and I were out walking. The bird was part of a pair perched in a small stand of trees, doing their best to stay tucked away and unbothered. From a distance the scene looks great, but once you zoom in, the image starts to show its limits. I kept wishing I’d brought my big camera that morning — of course, that was the day I didn’t. I had a pretty powerful camera with me, just not the most powerful one in my arsenal.

We’ve gone back that way a few times since, camera in hand, hoping to catch them again. No luck so far. Some birds give you one chance and then vanish into the trees like they were never there at all.
