This is absolutely bonkers! Some school (or maybe a parent at that school) has gotten one of my email addresses. This “Procare” system has “asked me to join”. But even without a confirmation or registration on my end, they seem to think I am a parent and should receive the pick-up and drop-off notifications for a child. These include the FULL NAME of the person doing that as well as the child. It's been going on for WEEKS!

I very much doubt that, legally speaking, #OptOut would be permissible in the #EuropeanUnion.
There have been several decisions by #CJEU. #DoubleOptIn is the standard for e-mail newsletters. Given the fact that #Threats is nothing but a giant, data-grabbing #SpamEngine, I would highly doubt that #CJEU would see it much differently.

Also, even though the #Fediverse is free of charge, people register on a server due to the instance rules...

Das #Double-Opt-In Verfahren scheint mir eine rein deutsche "Erfindung" zu zu sein. Oder verlangen andere Länder ebenfalls einen solchen Mechanismus? #DoubleOptIn

Am Ende muss ein Nachweis geführt werden. Wie dieser auszusehen hat, ist den Verantwortlichen überlassen.
